This is nice and all, but I don't understand the why. Sorry...
You know you can equip your follower with a weapon enchanted with soul trap and give them soul gems? You know they will fill them?
If you meant that only mage follower will use the soul trap spell directly then I stand corrected, but otherwise I really don't see the point. It's a shame really as this looks cool, could you find a way to convince me?
Your followers still can use enchanted weapon, but mages will naturally trap the soul no matter what. Only mages will be able to walk to the body and fill the soulgem.
Sticking the loot animation to a harvest soul event seems awkward and out of place. Why wouldn't I just do that myself? It makes them seem more capable than I am. You should just have them cast soul trap in battle or something.
How is this different from just giving your follower a weapon enchanted with soul trap and a bunch of empty soul gems? Except that now they have to walk up to the corpse to harvest it's soul, instead of just absorbing the soul when the creature dies.

Just a question, what happen if I trap the soul first? Does my mage follower get to the corpse and trap the soul a second time?
