*Important, please read: When you activate the boat outside Whiterun it says you can craft the items at a smelter. This was a mistake and the recipes are actually found under the forge menu. I apologise for any confusion this causes.

I added this mod via Bethesda Mods. I didn't realise it was here. It's a delight. The routes have been carefully worked out so they are plausible. The boats aren't repaired in the same way. The mini quest for the Riften boat is very nicely done and fits in perfectly with the original storyline while adding some closure. Personally, I dislike the fact that boat hirers and carriage drivers sit out in all weathers, never sleeping so I like being able to take my own boat without it miraculously reappearing just where I want it on some whim. But there is something very useful about some of the routes especially if you are overburdened with loot! This is one of those little mods which on the face of it seems quite small but has a huge impact on immersion in the world of Skyrim. Thank you! Highly recommended!
Well... from my point of view would be nice if next to boat we have some NPC, who can offer a trip for some amount. So... if we use boat from Riverwood to some destination, next time wen we back to Riverwood we can hire NPC again. No worry about, we leave somewhere boat
I activated the boat outside Whiterun and it said that I could make the materials (Saw, Hammer and Bag of Nails) from the Smelter, but it's actually from the Forge under the Misc category. And why didn't you just make it so you could use any of the Hammers or Saws that's already out and about in the world? There's even Nails in the HearthFire DLC, but I can understand that you didn't want that dependency.
It actually says 'smelter'? I can't believe I missed that. Yeah, sorry about that. You can use the saws and hammers that you find in the world, they're the exact same items. You just need to investigate the boat before you can use them though. The Forge recipes are just there in case you can't find any.
As for the nails, I didn't want to use Hearthfire as a required file just for the sake of one item.
Thanks for the heads up. I've put a note in the description. If I decide to add satchel storage to the boats I'll make sure to change the message.
Hmm, I believe I did investigate the boat first and then went about to find a hammer and saw, but after a short while I thought, what the hell, so I added them from the console, and they did not work. So now I blame the console.
Been using your mod for a while and love it, the whole immersion thing is not that big to me just as long as it looks like it fits into Skyrim its good to me. I have been using Expanded Towns and Cities by missjennabee (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13608/?) and the boat in Riverwood is in a spot that has a huge rock sitting there in the middle of the boat. I have changed the load order and it doesn't change it. The rock don't break either mod they both work just fine just letting you know of the spot.
This is great idea and after testing it briefly (very), I can already tell that the mod feels like it was part of the vanilla game, which is always important! I have checked the mod in TES5EDIT against quite a large modlist (223 active ESPs - stable set up) and I didn't find any conflicts. The only constructive comment I would have though is about the Whiterun boat - I think it's quite unrealistic to have it where it is, the stream is way to shallow to use the boat there. It would feel more realistic (and that word is part of this mod's name! ) if the boat was placed somewhere at the bridge near Honningbrew Meadery. Bear in mind that I have only checked Whiterun and Riverwood boats for the sake of quick testing. Also, feel free to check the thread for your mod on STEP forums: http://forum.step-project.com/topic/4269-realistic-boat-travel-by-thicketford/
You should make a version much like Touring Carriages, for immersion. Actually get in the boat and row down the river to the destination ... etc.
If you're looking for something like that I would recommend Travel by Boat... www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31377 The coastal boat takes you on a full journey and the river boats have starting animations.

Second, any chance at you removing the arbitrary route limitations that keep you from reusing the same boat in multiple locations?

Anyway, great mod and keep up the good work.
d/l'ing, and going to try it out!!
Use the console to disable the offending items. It works like a charm every time.
