THanks for this! This is still applicable to the newest version of Nifskope as of 10/10/2017 as well as applicable to Skyrim SE.

When adding texture transparency, if you run into any strange behavior you may need to tweak the flags on the NiAlphaProperty. The most obvious strange behavior I ran into was that any mesh with the alpha property would be invisible if in water. (Well really, just invisible when seen through the surface of the water.) When this happened to me, I took the flag settings from another model that didn't have this problem, which were these settings:

    • Enable Blending: OFF
    • Source Blend Mode: Src Alpha
    • Destination Blend Mode: Inv Src Alpha
    • Enable Testing: ON
    • Alpha Test Function: Greater
    • Alpha Test Threshold: 128
    • No Sorter: OFF

If making a mesh transparent, always check to see if it's waterproof! smile.gif

Anyone know how to make transparent mesh to catch object shadows (not only canopy shadows)?

I have an issue like picture on the left. Want to get the result like picture on the right.
Hair's shadows did not cast on the tattoo (transparent mesh) on back...

What is an alpha-masked texture? You're saying I need one before starting anything and I do not know what it is.

      Nevermind, figured it out

I do have another problem though. This guide didn't work. I made an Alpha channel and selected that which I wanted transparent. I started NifSkope, opened the mesh, applied the texture and created an AlphaProperty and pasted it in the correct location, and yet the part that is supposed to be transparent is still visable.

Fixed this problem aswell. I exported to a DXT1 instead of a DXT5. DXT1 apparently removes alpha channels. Oh well, everything has now been figured out!
