F12 is the default key and with default config you hear a 'camera' click. When you exit skyrim you should get a Steam popup giving an option to upload pictures to a Steam gallery but also an option to view the pictures locally where they have been stored (in the quirky location such as Steam\userdata\10299459\760\remote\72850\screenshots)
