The name of your guide might be misleading. Those are by no means advanced tweaks, nor do they yield a huge performance boost (without sacrificing LOTS of visual quality, that is).
Huhu, i have the same specs, jus 4g ram and a 9600 gt (512 mb vram) instead of the 9400m , i run real like enb with 30 fps in whiterun (+rlo, revamped exterior fog, remove interior fog).
I used texture optimizer ( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12801/?) on the texture.bsa ( max settings, but the game still looks good),Skyrim Performance PLUS ( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6387/?) ini tweak to delete shadows:
For my char i use a custom race with high rez textures (high rez armors/weapons too), no grass, textures on medium (i can put on high in some places), res: 1680x1050.
Hm, I think the only tweak, that does help your graphic card is lowering the resolution. As shadows and particles are mostly computed by the CPU, you will take away work from your CPU and so it may help just in a short way to your GPU.
Indeed, mods like SMCO (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13529/?) can improve performance with practically no noticeable decrease in quality. And you can keep your snow and shadows. Although if you are playing with below-spec hardware, that may not be possible.
This is a decent guide for those not informed so thanks for writing it. There is a fairly major error in it, though, and I just want to point it out. Shadows in Skyrim are rendered by the CPU, not the GPU. Granted, disabling shadows WILL increase your performance considerably because all that your CPU has to do in this game (and you're running a fairly old mobile dual core at only 2.26GHz), but nonetheless it is NOT a GPU issue IN SKYRIM. In many other games the engines (rather intelligently and as it should have been made) the GPU does render the shadows but for some reason Beth thought it would be a good idea to throw that load onto the CPU. I'm guessing there was some sort of performance reason to do that on the consoles and they just never optimized it when they ported it to PC. Anyway, like I said, good job, just wanted to point that out.

IMO, you'll have a better Skyrim experience if you buy a Xbox 360 instead of trying to run it on this platform with 9400m.
Nvidea Geforce 9400M 256 mb vram
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 ghz
8 Gigabyte ram
Pretty darn low... I'm pretty sure the gpu is below minimum specs...
