MOD MOVED TO ANOTHER SITE. ANY UPDATES WILL BE POSTED THERE AND NOT HERE (because author was banned from Nexus). Can't provide link, because Nexus rules forbid it, but you can google "FNIS COPY & EXECUTE".
I do not know whether this helps someone, but maybe yes.
I knew that once I had FNISGenerátor running, but different trapping errors and reinstalling Skyrim, I could not run it at once. Since I do not speak English and I would have the compiler, I recorded the unzipped folder with the file "FNIS_setup.exe" to the directory where even the "/ data" ... for me it was to drive "D:" .... but when I start it reported an "Program did not manage to copy files fnis and will quit." and the whole thing fell.
I solved it by my whole directory "/data" and file "FNIS_setup.exe" copy it to other disk (just in a different directory) .... after the beginning of the installation is to rewrite all the files in the directory "/data", but installation was without error. In addition, I modified the law directory that is not read-only.
So hopefully this will help someone who is trying to install, and can not. I think it is described in detail for pc illiterate: D
If I have FNIS already installed and working, with a shortcut to GenerateFNISforUsers.exe already on my desktop so I easily run it whenever I need to, will your program give me anything extra?
Doesn't FNIS create a desktop shortcut anyway? I thought it did. I can't remember how I installed it to be fair, I probs created it myself. Seems the obvious thing to do..
Yes, it does. After the first time navigating to it and executing it, it'll ask to create a desktop short cut. Thus, this "mod" appears to mainly address that initial navigation to the folder containing GenerateFNISforUsers.exe, as you can NMM install FNIS.
Thinking the same. I've made shortcuts to impt and regular exe's too like SkyProc patchers Then tossed all the shortcuts in one easy folder including TES5's and Bash. Made life much easier.
@others: I don't like shortcuts. They often get deleted, when migrating data between PCs. If you too dislike shortcuts, go ahead and use my program. If you prefer shortcuts - feel free to use them. Just don't waste your time explaining things here. None of the info is new to me and some of it is even wrong.
Neither do I. I have all my shortcuts on my quick launch tool bar in the task bar. Browser, Mail, itunes, skyrim stuff. If i don't use it every day, i drag it to the start menu. keeps my desktop clean and keeps all my not so often used shortcuts in one spot thats easy to get to.
I swear FNIS generator ask me to make shortcut when i exit it, if it doesn't see a shortcut on desktop. Even if it doesnt, making a shortcut is fairly easy.
Method 1
Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut. Click Browse. Locate the program or file to which you want to create a shortcut, click the program or file, click Open, and then click Next. Type a name for the shortcut. If a Finish button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it. If a Next button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it, click the icon you want to use for the shortcut, and then click Finish.
Method 2
Click Start, point to Programs, and then right-click the program you want to create the shortcut to. Click Create Shortcut. The shortcut is now at the end of the Programs list. For example, if you created a shortcut to Microsoft Word, to find that program, click Start, and then point to Programs. You will find the shortcut, named "Microsoft Word (2)" (without the quotation marks), at the bottom of the Program list. Drag the shortcut to the Desktop.
I can't believe that he can program and wouldn't know how to make a shortcut lol, I think we must all be missing something .Oh and yes Fnis does ask to make a shortcut.
That's the thin line between insanity and sanity. I'm too lazy to browse for the file to create a shortcut, so I write a program to do things for me
Truth is I reinstall all the mods 3-4 times per week, because I perform tons of testing on them. Kind of hobby. So very often shortcut points to nothing. That's where my program comes in.
I've never thought it might be of much use to other people. But you never know - I also recently released my BAT files. Anyone could've made them. But no one did and people thank me for them, to my great surprise.
Well if we think it's a waste of time doesn't matter, its his mod and as he says SOMEone might find it useful, and as he has made another VERY useful mod http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/37576/? I'm not gonna be too hard on him lol .
Find program icon in programs list and right click. Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut). Drag shortcut to quick launch aka taskbar. You get the icon of the program and a single click to activate it.
And to the shortcut problem: if the mod installs the exe to the same spot every time, the target will be there if the mod is installed. If the mod is uninstalled, the shortcut is there but the target location is bad. If the mod is reinstalled, the target location is good.

That's a lot of work to circumvent a 30 second task....

You couldn't be more wrong. Try it.

But I see it was already covered =P
And yes his other mod/patch is awesome

This little program is a tool I wrote for my personal use.
I just hated to have to browse for that FNIS Generator in Data files.""
Really? You find it easier to code a mod than to create a shortcut to the desktop or quick launch bar?
