Rofl, my bad, Bathesda messed up. Even in requirments for the deer trophy it uses the deer hide instead of deer pelt - what it was designed for, lol.
Thats interesting because if you look at the textures for hides and pelts, the Deer pelt actually looks like rolled up skin while the hide looks like some weird bundle of yarn.
Also, why is it that Deer pelts are hair, but wolf pelts, saber cat pelts, and bear pelts are all skin? *confused*
Actually a pelt is the hide and hair, like just after you skinned the animal. Rawhide is what you get during the tanning process by removing the hair, fat, other tissues etc. Hide (leather) is the final product.

Yeah I realize that pelts have the hair...I just kinda assumed that's what I was scraping off at the tanning rack. :/
Basically pelt --> hide --> leather --> awesome fetish gear.
That description made me laugh a lot
