I have never had this guy die. How do people get him killed? I recently downloaded two mods that may help. One makes people run away from dragon attacks (and into their homes) and the second one makes people run away from Vampire attacks (and into their homes). Other than that I think killing him would have to be intentional?
In a few words Alvor dies often because: This guys HATES dragons, see the weapon rack near his shop? As soon as a dragon gets near Riverwood he runs there to get his warhammer. When you are playing on anything above expert, it will take a while to take down the said dragon, and he'll have a pretty good chance to die. Also, most NPCs stay at the level you meet them for the first time, meaning Alvor is always really low-leveled. <--- This happens in Vanilla ofc.
Don't take this the wrong way, just genuinely trying to explain.
I've also got both of those mods, however in the Creation Kit, Alvor aids friends and allies. So where everyone runs inside, he runs over with his Battleaxe to fight the Dragon.
Don't worry, I don't see you as being a smart alec. Plus, someone was asking on the Beth Forums how to keep him alive, so I took 30 seconds to make him NEVER die
I must agree with you ,been playing this since Nov. 2011 and I lost count how many times I replayed this and I can't remember ever Alvor dying being an issue , he lived through most times , maybe I seen him die once during a vampire attack , but I prolly should have taken care of the dawnguard issue sooner , I always seem to loose shop owners but something to prevent this , maybe kinda immersion breaking IMO , but if people want this that's ok too , everyone plays different
guess I am one of the unfortunate ones that can't seem to get rid of him , He gets snappy with me and I try to kill him , he just goes into the usual crawl till Hod comes to his aid and I have to kill Hod Beirand is another one that gets under my skin , just my opinion but I can see where to some this would be annoying to see his demise , if he is needed further down
Ugh i Hate when People throw the Console in someones face.
Please make Lod the Woodcutter also Essential and make sure your Mod is Compatible with Deadly Dragons, becuase so far those are the Only 2 People i know of that Dies in Riverwood

This just takes away that little bit of hassle.
They can break your game or make it unstable.
typing ~` then typing setessential after clicking him is not hard and it will NOT harm your computer in ANY WAY!
