Welp, It seems like I'm having an issue with this mod, but not one that anyone else here is having.
It just doesn't do anything.
No, really. I've been on a quest to find a multiple-follower mod that actually does what it's supposed to do (seriously, I've tried basically every other mod like this on the Nexus, and they all found new and interesting ways to brick themselves), and a simple mod like this seemed like a godsend.
I took extra precautions just to be safe here. Dismissed all followers before entering a follower-free area. Put down a hard save and exited to desktop. Rebooted game, used that "set follower count to 0" command just to be 100% certain of everything, saved again, and quit again. Installed the mod, and when I tried to recruit a second follower... there was no difference between this and vanilla.
I even reinstalled the mod to be 100% certain. Still no changes.
Am I just stupid? Is the mod just super janky? Knowing how this all works, the answer is probably "both", but I'd prefer to solve at least one of those variables if at all possible.
The closest thing I have to a follower AI-affecting mod is My Home Your Home. Which at least kinda sorta replicates that "managing multiple followers" experience, but obviously it's not the same. There shouldn't be any orphaned scripts from my tests with other follower mods, since those were on a whole other save file. If any brave souls find this message and know of a solution, I'd appreciate it! There's two specific followers I'd like to bring with me on a quest, and neither were blessed with that precious "custom-made follower AI, doesn't contribute to follower count" package.
I have a problem with this mod, I dissmised my follower, installed the mod and it did not work for me, May the developer of this mod please let me know how to fix this issue
This mod is OK, but from what I'm reading in the comments, it is too much hassle when you can just download both UFO and MHiYH2plus. The latter allows 250 total followers.
: Worked like a charm at some point but after the companions quest, the mod broke itself. I was with a follower while doing some of the companions quest when Farkas replaced my current follower. I tried to workaround this with console commands like setfollowercount to 0 but nothing worked. Then I uninstalled and by my surprise my papyrus log became insane, like lag and 5GB of log errors in 1min of gameplay I found when I disabled the mod even doing a save clean after that. I even used Creation kit trying to fix the problem but the mod did internal changes on the vanilla DialogueFollower quest. I even reseted all Skyrim main follower quests related to dialogues and hiring but the issue still kept. My only solution was to leave the mod on. The papyrus log problem and constant lag stopped.
Unfortunately, this mod has stopped working for me and has started to cause problems over the last few days. Over the last week I've also had followers disappear, sending me on a search to find where I lost them. One has simply disappeared forever.
Then, over the last couple of days it reached a stage where I could only have one follower. Fine. Except that one follower has now disappeared and I can't add another follower because I'm getting the "You already have a follower" message from any prospective recruits.
I've uninstalled this mod, but I'm still getting the you already have a follower comment.
I eventually fixed the problem by bringing up the developer console (press the tilde key) and type "set playerfollowercount to 0"
That unlinked any followers I may have had, enabling me to recruit followers once more.
I've played it safe and not re-installed the mod for now. I'll play with one follower for a while.
*IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT THIS MOD IF YOU GET THE "YOUR COMPANION HAS REPLACED YOUR FOLLOWER" MESSAGE*
Okay, so I have been playing Skyrim for a while now and this mod is awesome. However, last week I was happily trundling around Skyrim with 5 or so followers, livin' the dream.
Then I get that horrifying message.
"Your companion has replaced your follower"
From then on I was playing Skyrim like a pleb with only a single follower. Long story short, I figured out why this happened.
When I played the companions questline "proving honor", Farkas replaced my follower(s). After this, that message would always appear and it, basically, ruined my game since I was basically acting like a support for my followers (giving them awesome weapons and armor, healing them in combat, but not really doing any damage myself; a fun way to play which this mod is pivotal to)
So, I tried it all ... console commands, setstage commands, mods, reinstalls, mod load orders, the works ... nothing seemed to.
So, I had to bite the bullet and start again. Fresh game, back to however many followers I wanted. Got to the companions and started that quest again, except this time ...
Before speaking with Skjor, who gives you the quest, dismiss all your followers! (I know, but bear with me)
At this point, Farkas will become your sole follower.
Then, after you are both on your way to Dustman's Cairn, you can just exit Jorvaskrr and just speak with all your companions, and VOILA!
NO MESSAGE :D :D
What I am thinking was a clue a previous commenter on this very page said ... the game makes a "checklist" of sorts, so if you have followers, the game will dismiss them in lieu of Farkas. However, if you have NO followers at the time the quest is given, the check will not initiate and this GAME BREAKING BUG will not occur.
Testing it and, so far, no hiccups. Let me know what you think.
Of course, anytime I install a mod that messes with game files, I start fresh. So, for those of you who have 100+ hours ... Sorry.
Also be wary of the Cursed Tribe quest!! Once Yamarz demands you follow him to Fallowstone, it will run that 'check' again! This is the only other instance where I found this happened, but there may be more! Be wary of this!!
In fact, just be wary of any quest where a NPC essentially forces themself as a follower.
Luckily, Serana never broke my game but I could be wrong. Beem-ja and Salma never did either, but I dont think the game counts them as temporary followers. Vilkas might when you go to avenge Kodlak. I dismissed them all to be sure ...
thanks for your warning, but for me it's a little too late, i save my game many times after this bug occurred....who knows this damn BUG can't be fix? f?ck you Bethesda so how about me? damn it!
Thanks for this. I'm having the exact same problem. Luckily I have not gone that far past Proving Honor. I guess I will have to go back and do that again.
Sorry, it did not work for me. I dismissed my follower, saved game then reloaded and tried to recruit more than one follower and it did not work.
Tried it again and, the mod works. Simple and effective.
It's not enough to simply dismiss your existing follower. You need to load a fresh area then restart the game. If the restart the game in the same area you will notice your dismissed follower still walking away in that area. The file needs to be clean of any other followers.
