I am glad that something is finally being done about all of the harness-free 2-handed weapons... which are even more inexcusable when the wielder has no top armor and the item appears to magically FLOAT behind their shoulders! How long could we be expected to just ignore that inconsistency with a believable sheath? I have often used "Bandoliers" (with shoulder pads) to help compensate for the lack of a better means to believably carry these weapons, and archery gear as well. The loop is a great start, Bergzore. But of course I think you could take it one or two steps further... don't you question how a warrior could get their weapon in and out of such a small fastening- the same fastening that holds so many 1-handed weapons in a similar (and unbelievable) fashion? Why not create a U- clip concept? Either one that faces in the direction from which the weapon is removed/replaced, or one facing away from the body at the very least? Conceivable, that a weapon might fall away more easily if the U were facing outwards, obviously, but a sideways facing U-clip on a shoulder strap would put all of the 2-handed weapon mounting discrepancies PERMANENTLY to rest. Just a thought to feed that brilliant mind of yours!
Wait... I'm no expert in weaponry, but how does one unsheathe his weapon with a loop like that holding it? How do you sheathe it even? I mean the loop is far to small for the whole blade to fit through, so is it like a sort of clip that opens and closes on the handle?
Anyway I'm not here to complain or anything, it looks great, but I just like when things are... understandable?
Unfortunately that's the best we can have unless a lot of other things are redone as well. For it to really make sense, the weapons would have to be sheathed the other way around. For that, we would need whole new sheathing animations, and there would surely be a number of hurdles through the process.
But yeah, let's just say it has automatic latching magicology (magic+technology)!
I'm just happy it looks like it's attached. The vanilla way definitely can not be explained.
Lol you're right, however it works, it's always better than the vanilla way.
I've looked up a bit on the internet and it seems that when people used two handed long swords/weapons, they would usually sheathe it in the back only for travelling, for which they would have to prepare it and stuff. In an ambush or any moment they would have to quickly draw their weapon they would have to use another one, possibly a one handed sheathed at his waist. They wouldn't have enough time to unsheathe their longsword, and definitely not the Skyrim way. To keep their longsword unsheathed they would have to carry it, say, on their shoulder, but no in a sheathe.
So yeah, I guess that with that in mind you've done the best possible thing withing the boundaries of the game. Now I can download it in peace
IRL no one wore 2H on the back. 1&1/2 sometimes, if they were Asian and were stealth-focused.
2Hrs went on a cart, on your horse, in your squire's care, or (as noted) balanced on your shoulder (not sheathed but carried, tho scabbarded if a sword sometimes).
TBH, while I would prefer anims with 1 hand holding the weapon balanced but not penalizing runspeed, the engine probably would bleed trying to do it, so this mod works for now, IMO.
I have just tried is out and have to say that this mod is a really good improvement over the vanilla "hover-weapons"! Really cool that you have covered ALL vanilla/DLC battleaxes and warhammers! Thanks and endorse!
No no no. Sheathing loops are you serious? And how does one slide his axe into a little loop? IT JUST HANGS THERE? http://www.geekologie.com/2010/06/functional-and-stylish-the-axe.php
This is how its done, just like a greatsword, you only cup the bottom, gravity keeps it there.
arg! i saw this and was sooo excited!! thought it was going to be my dream mod. placing hammers & axes correctly, flipped the other way on the back. like this... http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/849893-reposition-axes-hammers-right-side-up-on-the-back/page-5 but alas... i've made some skeletons that place the weapons turned correctly. even one that has an added weaponback bone and renamed weapon nodes, one for axes n hammers, and one for greatswords. but there needs to be work on the animations. not actually the drawing (tho that's be nice) but attaching the 2nd bone to make the npc draw it. oh well, the loop is nice tho. better 'an nuttin.
I don't mind the way the weapons sit in vanilla. Plus it's too much damn work to redo all that stuff just to flip them around, in my opinion. If someone else wants to do all that, more power to them lol.
