@Mancika I would love you if you made the normals deeper. Deep 'uns just look awesome everywhere.

I guess I have to rework this mod. There are so many fixes for the games ridiculous behavior that it actually becomes playable. I will look up how many texture mods there are and if it is worth to make this better. Also if people are interested in this I will make all the normals deeper.

At last, Skyrim is not wrapped in plastic anymore! Thank you for this. And yes, walls and rocky roads may appear flat, and yes, some walls may lose their roundness, but believe me, I like it much better than everything wrapped in glossy plastic bags as it was before.

First replacement considered a MUST for me, as from now. Sorry I didn't find this earlier.

Uh, why are you butchering the normal maps?

all these do is wipe out the broad forms in the normal map and replacement with noise. you can see it on the fox. All the subtle forms are now gone leaving only the shape of the mesh. If you want more noisy detail you should overlay onto the original maps so you dont loose the baked detail.

started a new character without the 2 files and so far I haven't seen any issues with snowy rocks. On one hand I cannot believe they went so cheap on the diversity of texture but then again it is Bethesda. Skyrim was supposed to have great graphics compared to oblivion and i am seeing just a small amount of improvement with the actual textures but compared to other games of the past 3-5 years its atrocious.

Anyway I hope the next patch gets you back up and running and try to enjoy work if at all posible.

@jet4571 I only saw those 2 textures to be "odd". Since I do not play (CTD every 5 minutes) I cannot confirm 100% but while I was testing I did not see other sites to get wrong.

I wish Beth could get its sh*t straight and patch us up to work now. If they don't do it soon I will have to quit being involved with skyrim for a while. I have to work more at years' end as usual but it is frustrating what beth does.

Any way have fun guys, merry christmas to all of you and let's just wait what happens.

There was only 2 normals that had the snow issue? Wow i would've expected there to be several different skins to add more variety. though i wasn't inspecting the rocks like I would a piece of architecture or armor.

As for how it makes it noisy that could happen if the snow highlights became bumps in the normal map which is what i was thinking the problem was. everything you did rules that out and i am just as confused on why it does it as that's not normal behavior for normal maps. I have a possible explanation for it and that's the way the game does shadows, shadows in Skyrim are a strange bread and do some weird s#*! sometimes. Anyway if its just 2 normals i think they can be skipped because of the issue.

I also agree with you on not having the normals become overdone. If the LOD's had a separate normal that's where you would overdo it to make the details pop out, but on something you can get right up to a sharper crisper normal works much better and that's what you are making as far as I can see.

    *edit
Couldn't you increase the depth of the normals by increasing the contrast since normals work on a gradient scale? the low points being darker and high points being lighter I would think increasing the contrast would keep the sharpness but make the lows lower and highs higher possibly allowing the light and shadows to become more visible.

    Oh and Merry Christmass everyone.
