I warned people what would happen if anyone mentioned anything about what Astrokid248 said. I will not be maliciously attacked by ANYONE who ignores the problem and continues on pointing the blame on me telling me I should stop modding for not understanding someone people like Astrokid248 don't bother explaining.
There are way too many people like Astrokid248 who get away with this far too often. It's time they have something done about them and their malicious comments.
So because of Astrokid248's actions, all comments and discussion about this are now closed. If I could delete his comment I would, but I cannot so now everyone has to suffer.
Any person that PM's me about any part of this, will be reported for harassment.
This mod has great potential and it's base idea is very interesting. But if you're open to a little constructive criticism, I agree with everyone else in that a stahrim overlay would look much better than a simple retexture. I will track this mod and see what become of it! :]
Also, if you don't have a 3D modeling tool, I'd suggest getting a free student copy of 3ds Max. You don't technically even have to be a student to obtain a copy, as Autodesk does no checks to see if your really are one. I suppose you could try Blender as well (which is completely free and open source), but I always found its installation process tedious, and that it had too many versions and far too many outdated tutorials and/or Skyrim-compatible import/export plugins.
I normally don't respond to people saying read a tutorial or watch a video, because every time I reply there is no instructions to what they're telling me to watch or read, and I even explain what's missing, all people do is argue with and against me, force knowledge I don't have onto me because they know it, attack me by saying other people can follow this so it's just you, no one can be that/this dumb, or it is explained, then throw the word troll around.
But people seem ok on this site so I'll give it a try...But the first person that says Google, videos, or simply mentions tutorial, or gives me any grief about me not understanding something, will cause this whole mod to have the comments on it shut down, so no one can leave any more comments.
I will not be subjected to malicious attacks about this because people have zero consideration and cannot put themselves in a beginners point of view and just force what they know onto me and say everyone else understand it or any of this other nonsense. So as long as people keep this conversation civil and actually provide the help, things will go fine.
Anyway here is my input on this whole modeling thing:
I'm up for constructive criticism, but fom what I am reading, pretty much every modder here has this huge hard on with/for graphics. Which is fine except that there is no modder anywhere that does this specific aspect that bothers to explain the entire process from start to finish on how to model. They all say go to the wiki, or there are plenty of videos, but the thing everyone fails to understand is that every single tutorial and video in existence about any of this stuff, is absolutely incomplete and written so only people with advanced/highly advanced knowledge can even follow and understand them.
Even the tutorials about NIF scope don't even explain how to get a picture to show up in NIF scope, they just say open the nif then leave you on your own. I know because I've tried getting an NIF model to show up in the window with those red and blue arrows (Or whatever they are) and nothing shows up so there is no way to see what is being changed or what part of the NIF file is getting changed. Is till have never been able to see the point to NIF scope when no pictures even show up in the window. How the hell can you mod when you don't even know what is being changed because you cannot see it..You have to guess what those lines are doing...IS anything even supposed to show up in the window.
And the same holds true with 3dS max, it's a useless tool for anyone that's not advanced. I attempted to open a file in that as well, and had all these options and a big mess that was and is a complete maze of information and there isn't any explanation what any of that stuff does, or it's used for, or what purpose it serves.
A tutorial about the programs functions needs to be explained in 3rd grader terms and an example of what each option in it does is required before telling anyone to go watch a tutorial about it.
In fact an example with every single step involved needs to be created and until that happens they are really useless to anyone that has no experience. If you're going to tell someone to go watch a tutorial or read anything about it, then you need to explain it. Simple as that.
And the other thing that seriously pisses me off is when the people just tell someone Google it or they're trolling. And it's all because there is no tutorial that gives a fully detailed example on everything involved on how to do this.
I've given up on any of those programs because there isn't anything that exists that explains how to use them.
Now I'm not telling anyone they need to do anything as in someone is required to explain that stuff, I am saying that information is needed in order to model. And no one is going to do that. and that's fine, but unless people are willing to do that, then people really need to stop telling people to watch videos about this and read tutorials they won't be able to do anything with.
I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm saying exactly how it is.
I myself will not do any modeling until someone literally spoon feeds me all the information and holds my hand through every single little aspect, right from opening the file all the way up to explaining what each and every option I'm using is, does and how to use them.
@tx3000mods I think you should stop modding then. If you aren't willing to use Google to learn, you should stick to requests from others. You literally put a single color filter over the texture. That is the laziest possible way you could have attempted this, and to blast someone suggesting that you learn what every other modder here is learning is childish and rude.
@tx3000mods I have a question about the warning at the bottom of the description. You say that all enchantments are lost upon "upgrading": do you mean (1) upgrading enchanted vanilla armor to ice armor? or (2) tempering enchanted ice armor that you have previously enchanted? The first would be no big deal, but the second limitation would be very disadvantageous.
A mod that makes it so you can make any armor and weapon out of any material.. Daedric style armor made out of Moonstone. Elven armor made out of Daedra Hearts and Ebony. Ebony style armor made out of Malachite..
It seems that it wouldn't be that hard to retex many of these to have stahlrim inlays instead of just a layer of color over the armor, which honestly looks like plastic wrap even more than mage armor
