How about taking it further and calling them Ash Scribs? After all, they don't look exactly like the Scribs from Morrowind and there is a lot of ash about the place.
I agree with you, and I actually think they're the next stage of Scrib-o-lution. Because creatures migrated north after Red Mountain's eruption. Wouldn't it make sense that if scrib did they'd evolve to live in more ash-y climates?
Theyre called Scribs in the construction set. They were obviously meant to be Scribs, but bethesda probably decided not to include Kwama, so changed their appearance slightly at the last minute. I like the Ash Scribs idea though.
