I simply couldn't stand that goofy frickin' hairdo of his, but since I usually opted for mage-y followers, I never had much use for the archer. Now I might actually have a reason to bring him along on quests, rather than having to resist the urge to use him as a quick Archery level-up (since you can take the money back after you've had him train you) and then ditch him like a bad habit.

Me too. The young man still lives with his mother, mocks her for seeing dragons and does nothing useful besides singing for just a couple of hours in the inn. The older guy has proper speech, hunting skills and works all day doing heavy labour to earn his keep. Clearly the young guy doesn't stand a chance.
