    With Skyrim Special Edition out, I was taking a look to see if this was ported over, but I imagine not. I tried downloading the SE creation kit to load up the mod and save it to port it over, but Bethesda's launcher is annoying me, and now it refuses to load. I've loaded it up in my own SE game, and it seems fine, though I don't know if it will have any negative effects on the game at all since it wasn't saved with the SE CK.

    A very nice and simple mod for anyone who'd like to have an early game safe storage chest before you have a chance to purchase a player home. After all, you're welcomed to stay as long as you like.

    Thanks for the reply. When I followed Hadvar back to Alvor's house, I had that conversation and was offered some items, but wasn't given a key to the house, so I pick-pocketed it from Alvor's wife while she was sleeping. I can come and go whenever I want, using the key, but from time to time she will keep repeating "You need to leave".

    I gave some thought to everyone's suggestions, and decided that I'd try my hand at making a keyed version of the mod. This entailed spending another hour and a half playing with the Creation Kit to make some keys appear from thin air. I also fixed some things that were bothering me, like the fact that the chest in Hod & Gerdur's house wasn't properly aligned on its dresser, and moved the clutter off the dresser and put it on the nightstand instead. So I released two new versions of the mod, the one which has the dresser and clutter fixes, and the one which has the "loose keys" lying around the house.

    I thought about putting the keys in the chests, but they aren't going to do you a whole lot of good in there - once you pick the lock, it's picked, so you don't need the key at that point (except to facilitate breaking and entering into the house of the people you aren't friends with), so I decided to put them 'loose' - lying around the house. Usually, within a few feet of the chest itself. I uploaded images of the key locations to make it easy to find them. Like the chests, I made the keys belong to the player, ignored by the AI and the Sandbox, but the keys had the option to respawn, and I unticked that option (you get ONE key per download, no exchanges or refunds), so you have a chest and a key to it in the house.

    @Wendy (and anyone else having trouble getting the key the game is supposed to give you) -

    At the beginning of the game, after you escape the dungeons of Helgen, Hadvar/Ralof will suggest you split up, but if you don't, if you follow along with Hadvar/Ralof, they'll lead you to Riverwood, and when they get there, they will seek out their relative - Alvor/Gerdur respectively - and there will be a little scene where they ask you and your companion what happened (Hadvar tells his tale inside Alvor's House, Ralof tells his on the stump out by the mill), and at the end of that scene, Alvor/Gerdur says "Any friend of (Hadvar/Ralof) is a friend of mine. Here's a key to the house, stay as long as you like. If there's anything else you need, just let me know." (This then opens a trade window, where it tells you to "Take Gift" - everything in that menu is a gift and you can take it without paying for it.) You are supposed to receive a key before that menu opens, but I just did a playthrough from my Helgen save, going with Hadvar instead of Ralof, to test the chest mod in Alvor's House, and Alvor didn't give me a key, whereas every time I've sat through the scene with Hod, Gerdur, and Ralof, I got the key given to me at the end of it. So there might be more of a need for the keyed version of this mod than I thought.

    In any case, the keys are on the bars in the houses, less than a five foot step from the chest. The images I've uploaded show their locations. The keys belong to you and are yours to take, granting you access to the house and your chest, so now you can come and go out of the house of your companion's family as you please and use the chest as you wish.

    This mod is a good idea.Gerder has not handed me a key.Looks like I will be using my lock picking until you place the key in the chest. Will endorse.

    @Swordman1er:

    Glad you're enjoying the Mod!

    @MasterKirby:

    I've had a lot of success with this keeping my stuff in for long periods of time. I beta tested 0.1 in my game for months of time in game before cleaning it up to put on the nexus.

    I didn't think about the key in the chest, mostly because when you get welcomed by your host (Alvor or Gerder, respectively), they hand you a key to the house, and once you open the chest, it's open indefinitely. I've personally always gone with Ralof so far, so my hosts are Hod and Gerder, but to test the mod, I slipped into Alvor and Sigurd's house and picked the lock on the chest, and left a few things in their chest, and returned later to verify they weren't resetting. And now, because the lock is keyed, if you happened to pick it and, say, have the Wax Key perk, you'd automatically get a key to the house of the other host. I will think about putting a key in both chests, as both families seem to welcome you no matter who you side with - I have yet to be yelled at for trespassing in Alvor and Sigurd's house, after all, by slipping in when the door's unlocked.

    Just what I was looking for. I was storing extra weapons in Alvor's blacksmithing fire ring, but wanted somewhere to store lots of small items that were filling my pockets (potions, rings, food, etc...). This is nice for if you don't want to add a player home mod or buy one.

    Waited 50 days in game and my stuff is still in the chest without it resetting.

    One recommendation would be to put a copy of the house's key in the the chest so that you don't have to pickpocket it from the owner to get 24/7 access to the chest without breaking in.

    Cool. A simple yet usefull mod for gamestart.

    I like to play "mod-free" once in a while, but this one is a keeper, since it's non-gamebreaking and quite logic in it's usefullness.

    Thanks !
