I am happy to say that this mod is compatible with Skyrim special edition, although I would be happier if I could download via the mod manager.
So I'm satisfied with the outcome of dipping my toe into Waters which I rather not, even if the majority of the files are unchanged. :3

Instead of altering the potency, why didn't you just alter the load screen? Just curious is all. Sorry if I sounded rude, didn't mean to!

Well, as I said in the description, in every elder scrolls game before this, Breton's have had 50% magic resist. The loading screen just further bothered me by continuing that line of thought while it was completely untrue. It wasn't the loading screen that really bothered me (it took forever to get that loading screen to show up so I could get the above screenshot). It was the sudden break in lore/mechanics/consistency that bugged me. On top of it, Breton's happen to be my favorite race as well and reducing the magic resist made them, for lack of a better word, "blah". Just really lacking in real strength.

So, long story short, the change I wanted was potency, not a correct description on the loading screen. I've played extensively now with a Breton at 50% resist in Skyrim (~150 hours), as they've always been, and I don't find it overpowered at all, it just helps them fill a special niche of being effective mages and mage slayers.

Don't worry, you don't sound rude, I understand it was just an honest question Honestly, if you are or happen to plan to play a Breton, try it out, see if you like it and if you find it overpowered, uninstall it. It doesn't touch any scripts or anything so there shouldn't be anything left behind if you do decide to uninstall. Happy gaming!

"it just helps them fill a special niche of being effective mages and mage slayers."

And being far superior to high elves naturally. Breton MR! XD

Jacking this up to 50% is probably not a good idea. It was reduced for a reason. It was this high in Morrowind because it only affected non-elemental Magicka-based effects (though disease was also resisted, since its effects worked via magicka -based spell code). In Oblivion, this changed to a) resistance against offensive spell-based attacks only (not innate powers, nor effects from various item types, I forget the details), and b) inclusive of elemental and even most poison effects, yet d) was still 50%. This turned out to be massively over-powered. The resistance works about the same in Skyrim, so 50% is too much. I've experienced this effect very well: at 50% in OB or SR, I just shrug off magic attacks as a minor annoyance most of the time; if I get killed it's almost always melee. In MW, elemental attacks used to take me out pretty frequently. The 50% was only any good against certain enemies (mostly spellcasters who tried Absorb, Damage, or Drain Health, or annoying crap like Burden).

However, the race is screwed up in several other ways, which I hope to address in a new mod shortly, to fix both Dragonskin and their height. Short version: DS is pointless, because ANY race can get 80% absorb with Atronach Perk + Atronanch Stone + Ward Absorb (usable multiple times per day!). So, Skyrim's DS power is a booby prize, a pseudo-power. I'm going to put DS back to the Shield effect is has always been. This will compensate for the stupidity of SK's DS power and the perceived (though not actual) weakness of the 25% resistance.

Height-wise, I'm going to make them about on par with Nords, but lower weight; Arena said they were tall, and they are part High Elf, but slight of build. Morrowind did not say anything about their average height and did not make them Wood Elf-sized, nor did Oblivion (though both had stats minuses on on what Skyrim lumps together as Endurance, due to the leaner build). So Skyrim making them munchkins just makes no sense at all. Especially given that the Bretons in Skyrim and Solstheim will have been interbreeding with Nords at least to some extent, so would actually be getting taller, not shorter.

Another glitch is that they've been given a Speech bonus in SR, but that's always been an Imperial trait, and doesn't make sense for Bretons (at all - see the Lore:Breton page at UESP: Their entire culture is dominated by centuries of regional feudian between rival fiefdom - they do not play well with their neighbors). The closest thing they've had to this in any previous game with a minor disposition boost with other Bretons (again: they like their people, and don't play so well with others). I'm going to swap this with the Light Armor bonus they get in Online, probably, for increased continuity across the entire TES. It will be consistent with their lightly-built nature and their focus on magic (and often stealth), which goes back to at least Arena.

Does this improve the magic resistance of Breton NPCs as well?

Yes it does. Anything that is the Breton Race in the game will have this as it modifies Breton race powers. My destruction mage has a heck of a time taking down forsworn with this installed. Dremora Lords usually solve that problem though

Just found this Mod...I usually run with a Stealth/Archer/Alchemist Nord male....but have been playing around with  Breton Mage female recently and have been finding her very squishy in Mage combat....Thank you......I am guessing this is exactly what I have been looking for.

what robe retexture is that? also i agree with you since bretons are also my favorite race (next to argonians of course!) ) and it seemed weird how that changed from previous games

I believe it's from Elaborate Textiles, an excellent mod that overhauls basically all clothing in the game. I'll post the link for you:

@Coastalaxe: I thought I put that up there but I guess not. It's slot 58. I'll put that in the description. The only thing I've run across that conflicts with it is the front left slot from Bandoliers, Bags and Pouches. However there is a new version that simply modifies the Breton race with the magic resistance so you don't NEED the ring anymore... unless you're equipping it on a non-breton

If you could let us know which slot it uses exactly, since other mods that use extra slots could conflict, and they usually post if it's "slot 62" or whatever.

    NEW VERSION UPDATE!

I've finally updated the mod to modify the race without needing any messy rings or anything. The Breton race is modified. I'm calling it a beta for now simply because it hasn't gone through much testing but it appears to be working on both new characters and old (my Breton Vampire Mage has the modified racial effect).
