It just kills me such a simple, easy to install mod is only available for the original Skyrim.

Nice idea for potion balancing, and works as described. A must-have for third-person players. However, the animation is a little too janky in first-person mode. I prefer (and use) your other mod that adds a debuff to limit potion spamming.

Anyone else having an issue where their entire game freezes (not even a CTD) when I click on a potion in my inventory?

Not sure what might cause this. It used to happen very rarely, but lately it's a 50/50 chance so I unfortunately have to uninstall. It sucks having to close and restart Skyrim all the time because of a damn potion :/

I think freezing the caracter when drinking is not a bad idea because if you think, you have to take your potion from your bag and then drink. it's very immersion-friendly. I almost stopped using potions at all. good mod. is there a poison version too?

Incredibly awesome! Must-have mod for immersion. If there are any plans to update this mod, having the same done for poisons and food would be the ultimate!

The way Skyrim's engine works, whenever you set an animation to play (at least the drinking potion animation), you have to be still and not in control of your character. It is really troublesome, because if you move and call the animation, your character will be bugged. If you have a weapon wielded, your character will be bugged too. If you are jumping, drink the potion in mid air, you will be bugged. I believe 90% of my effort when creating this mod was trying to find ways to work around these bugs, trying to time perfectly so the animation plays as soon as possible and also ensuring the character is still so it won't bug you.

This mod's users know that sometimes you will have to reequip your weapon because the timing was not good enough. Also, i found this mod a little unpractical, since it take too long to drink a potion in combat and you can't run while doing it.

In my ideal skyrim, you would be able to use a potion quickly, running, but there should be an anti-stacking time. Or maybe potions should be more effective and powerful, but they would not stack effects. I dunno. Suggestions? =)

Using a potion while moving (walking, running) would be ideal... but not at all necessary. As long as the main feature works, great; the mod does its job.
However; if it is possible for you to add additional features like drinking a potion while walking or running without the player bugging out, I say go for it. The anti-stacking feature sounds cool. Drink one potion > drinking animation starts automatically > then drink another potion.

Or.... say you really want to drink "X" number of potions. You:

Drink X number of potions > drinking animations plays X number of times > health/magicka/stamina restore slowly but the effects still stack.

Do you plan on improving or expanding your mod? .

Using animations really rendered using potions almost useless.

The only way I found to avoid potion stacking that does no break the game's balance, nor make potions really different is with my other mod, Potions Cooldown. With it you can use 1 zillion potions right after another, but after the first you get a 5 or 10 seconds period when all potions with the same effect are less effective.

I don't plan to continue supporting this mod, since animations are really bugged and the only solution I have is to create an animation (and I have no idea how to do it, nor have the time and energy to learn it right now). That would work. By creating a new animation, you can set parameters like "need one free hand" and "can do it running" that the animation I used didn't allow me to.

I'll say that I've always really enjoyed this mod. While it makes potions far less useful, I still find them (at least those with a significant enough value) to still be useful, and it makes drinking potions in combat a tactical decision, requiring one to get some spacing, and find cover far enough away from the enemy to suck one down. It certainly helps to have a follower or two as a buffer or distraction.

I'm disappointed to learn that you won't be continuing to support this. I hope someone else picks it up eventually, maybe finds a way to allow player movement while drinking a potion, but I don't mind being rooted so much. In any case, thanks for the effort on this to date.

manaflow, since you say you're not focused on improving this mod right now, I've taken a crack at fixing some of the lingering issues—my version is "Improved Potion Animation" here on Skyrim Nexus.

I have to agree with what you said about working on potion animations—90% of it is fixing weird glitches and bugs. The craziest one I found was that drinking a potion with a Paralysis side effect would cause your character to fly up into the ceiling and be stuck there forever. (Fixing it required making sure the player was not in ragdoll mode before every stage of the script.)

i only can think of two options: make a new running and walking animation for drink potions, and the more practical but clumsy option, make the current animation twice as fast with simple editing the animation mesh

If you'd be able to walk while sipping the potion, i think it would be in great balance with skyrim.
You could ask an animater to simply have the upper body do the vanilla drinking animation and the lower body to do the vanilla walking animation. I figure that shouldn't be too hard to do, and there should be someone here with a little time for it!
If you've got time for that, that is .
It would be awesome! I'm trying to recreate dark souls combat to a degree that still fits with the way enemies in skyrim work.
A real time hotkey mod would also be nice in conjunction with this, as i hate pausing/entering the hotkey menu mid-combat.
Need to get a controller with some extra buttons substituting keyboard keys though, if that even exists.
Or perhaps i'd even be able to use the up key on the d-pad

I also suggest you to check out this mod, here's the brodual review:

Possible abusable mechanic: Eating potion ingredients has the returning effect as potions, letting you eat one and then find out all of the effects from all the others without consuming them.
