I'm not sure if anyone else has posted about this (they probably have and I just haven't looked far enough back), but when I already have a horse and acquire another one, I lose the option to ride the first one. In my most recent game, I bought a horse, bought the equipment, and planted the flag. When I went to do the quest in which you get Frost, I check the box for disabling horse tracking. I then fast traveled away (actually had to do it twice because for some reason, when I did it the first time, the horse showed up. It *may* have something to do with the fact that a dragon showed up in the place to which I fast traveled, but I don't know. But when I fast traveled back to my camp, saved my game, then fast traveled away again, the horse didn't show up) and did the quest. I mounted Frost (the way I ended the quest made him mine, not stolen), got the "horse has been herded" (or whatever it was), waited for it to update factions (to neutral), then fast traveled back to camp. When I got there, I would walk near my first horse, the option to ride her wouldn't show up. (BTW, after mounting and dismounting Frost, I did uncheck the box for disabling horse tracking, so Frost traveled with me.)

while this mod has worked like a dream for me until today, I think I should leave a word of warning for others. Getting the ability to summon Arvak in the Soul Cairn does something bad to the herd. I have lost four horses right off and another died when I mounted a new horse, instead of trotting back to the herd camp. Luckily all my horses come from mods (Dunwurkin Farm and Swift Steed New Light Breed Horses) so I can hopefully get them back by reinstalling those mods. But It makes me nervous about summoning Arvak ever again.
*edit*: no good at all. Once you have Arvak, forget the herd. I reloaded back to before getting the skelly horse and did not pick it up again. Herd's fine now.
Just use "cathedral assets optimizer" to convert meshes/textures, then you can use it directly, what I am just doing. The only thing not working is convenient horses se is not aware of the presence of this mod of course, so the calling horse power doesn't show any menu to show the horse you want. Other problem which exists also in the le version : works only in skyrim land, it would have been perfect for the shire, but you can setup camp there with at least the standard mod... really too bad...
So the description of the Herding feature says you must purchase the horse equipment to set up the camp. Where do I buy it from? No stable master sells it and ive checked a few stores in several towns.
What was the item called? I've been wondering the same thing and I also have a cluttered inventory! Also wondering if it can be removed after putting the flag down.
You can remove the backpack after you put the flag down. Just open your inventory and look for "basic herding backpack". Then you can click on it to unequip it.
I resently adopted the horse of a dead bandit by mounting it. but after sleeping or beeing in a closed location it dissappears. i cannot even cheat it back, it just seam to does not exist anymore. i have herding running but still. can someone help me?
edit: ok as i now found out the game deletes the horse from the game. wtf??? its markt as deletet!!! [D] will this happen to other horses?? is there a way to make it undeleteable?
There are some horses you find in the world that have an "ff" in front of their console ID (when you use the console and click on the horse). This means that it's game generated and can disappear.
