   I wanted old and busted/rusted as an aesthetic choice for it, I figured the item had been sitting in a crypt for over 200 years and has been unkempt during that time, and the lore behind the shield doesn't make it a daedric artifact, just a powerful mortal creation, so degredation is a giving.
