Ignore my previous wall of text. My problem is, even when uninstalling my other Snow Elf race mod and starting a fresh game, ANY Snow Elf NPC (whether vanilla, like Gelebor, or a mod follower) refuses to wear any clothing I give them.
TL;DR I have another Snow Elf race mod installed and want to change my Dragonborn into this one instead. Depending on the load order, I either get every single Snow Elf NPC (Gelebor, mod Vyrthur and other followers) to go around naked and refuse to equip armor, OR, I get the NPCs working, but my character is just a head floating in space.
First off, I made a Snow Elf with "True Snow Elf Race", a while back. I was not happy with how he looked, so I installed this, "Snow Elf Playable Race", and tried making a new character just to see how it looked, and it was great, so I installed "showracemenu alternative" to change my old character's race. Now, changing his race works great, but:
1) For some reason, a Snow Elf follower I just got, is now naked, and refuses to use any clothes other than his default. I have no idea how he clashes with this race mod. I try over and over again in different ways, same result.
1B) Also, a strange thing is that when I load my old Snow Elf (the other race mod), on a save made before installing this one, he is now naked, and can only wear some items at complete random, but he looks the same as he always did. (Some vanilla items work, others don't.) When I change him into Snow Elf Playable Race, he's fine and can wear anything. But in the change race menu (or start a new character menu), there is only this one Snow Elf, though I have two installed (I obviously have to have both active at the same time in order to change him).
So 1) is a problem, 1B) is just a bit strange, but solved by changing him into this race.
2) I change the load order with LOOT, in an attempt to solve my problem. Now, the follower uses whatever clothes I want him to. Great. Both Snow Elf races show up in the race menu. Great. BUT now, my character's body is invisible. Whether loading a save after changing him, or taking an old save and changing him anew, whenever he has a piece of bare skin, he becomes invisible.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with NMM instead of manual installation, same thing. If I just put the mods at the bottom like I did first, my follower is naked, but my Dragonborn works great. If I use LOOT to sort, my follower wears anything I want, but my Dragonborn's body disappears completely. (This is also visible in the race menu, when the Snow Elf Playable Race is only a head floating in space. Strange how LOOT should create this problem.)
I do understand Skyrim is buggy and changing anything mid-playthrough is especially risky, but that doesn't mean it can't be solved.
Edit: Troubleshooting with every Snow Elf NPC, all of them have this refuse-to-equip armor syndrome (whether they're Vanilla Gelebor, mod-added Vyrthur, mod NPCs, or elves that the old race mod turned into Snow Elves, like Faendal. All really strange).
This may be some sort of stupid idea, but sometimes, when talking to people they reffer to you by your race, say: "What do you want, little elf", or when you meet the guy who is annoyed about the altmers in understone keep that says "Your Kind started the war". My idea is that, if you use Snow Elf as your race the population of Skyrim would mistake you for an Altmer... because nobody knows how ancient falmer looks like, and they look a lot like the altmer, so, could you link the altmer related dialogues from NPCs to this race?
+Majorasixty Well, the nords didnt started killing snow elfs when they arrived, they had an friendly relationship to say atleast in the beginning. s#*! only hit the fan when the Night of Tears happened.
Wasn't the night of tears a response to the Snow elves finding that Eye of Magnus? fearing the Ancient nords would mis-use it (or the Falmer just wanted it for themselves. depending on how you view it)
The murder of under 100 people doesnt excuse the genocide of an entire race. Killing elves that were completely uninvolved, like women, other men, kids, etc is unjustified. Ysgramor is just a glorified war criminal.
guess this mod is only for males? when I setracemenu to this snow elf mod the face and head is fine but the body was a blueish ice texture then setracemenu again and the body had the same texture as a deadra weapon texture of oblivion you need to fix this issue thanks.
So...I'm sure I'm not the first to ask, when is this getting a port for Special Edition? Aside from the female gender exclusion, it's truly the best snow elf mod I've ever been able to find. Please at least let someone else take it over for you, thanks.
