    Hey folks. Sorry about the massive delay in covering anything. A few months ago my hard drive crashed, I lost all of my files, and ended up moving to another state afterwards, so I've been out of the modding scene for a while. I would be happy to let anyone who wants to use the crossbow revamped files for their own uses in modding do so. Just give me credit!

      Thanks for the generosity! I've just started an overhaul mod, inspired by many of my favourite mods. I got DJjojo's permission to use his stuff this morning. I'd be very interested in using your Iron Crossbow texture, but I'm green to modding, and I'm not sure if this will work.

      I've added DJjojot's Crossbows to my mod, and balanced them to my rebalanced Dawnguard Crossbows (including renaming Crossbow, to Steel Crossbow). My stupid question is: will I be able to use your replaced Iron Crossbow next to the original Crossbow (now Steel Crossbow in my game)? Many thanks.

    Is this compatible with Skyrim Special Edition? If not, could we get a compatible version?

    Edit:

    Nevermind, I tested it out and it seems to work just fine

    Don't get me wrong, I like the mod and its ideas. I think that this has some of the better-looking crossbows for a mod). But It's quite unbalanced, and has a couple flaws. For example: while you cannot upgrade the iron crossbow that you get from bandits, you gan get an iron crossbow. From bandits. That deals 33 base damage. when I upgraded my elven bow at 100 smithing with 2x enhancement upgrade (from SPERG), It dealt 36 damage. at about the same time, a steel crossbow was about 15 damage (not upgraded)

    I also play with a mod where I make things harder to buy (read: I sell things for about 50% again less value, buying stuff for 70& more). I was selling basic steel crossbows for ~480 gold, way less than the bars were worth. Also worth noting, they provide an insane ammount of xp per craft. I got 100 smithing, making a ton of money (30k+) just crafting them. Good ole' iron was only worth about 112.

    That said, crossbows/bolts were exceedingly balanced damage-wise to bows. An equivalent bow/arrow combo dealt 25% more damage than the crossbow/bolt combow. When using both, they are about equal, though upgraded and against an armored target, the crossbow is superior (as it should be)

    Reccomendations (if you ever get back to modding or someone else picks this up):

    1. Make iron crossbows unavailible to player (like the Dark Brotherhood armor from the assasin random event or thief's armor from thief event--you can see they are wearing it, but you cannot loot it), or make it more in-line with the other crossbows and just give them something like dwaren/elven. They can raid caravans, right?

    2. Lower the price for steel crossbows (and quite posssibly others). Does les damage than iron, but costs more, and levels smithing like crazy.

      WAAAY late to this party, but if anyone has a balance issue it's easy to patch it to suit your play style. Like I said on another patch needed thread if the author is ok with me making a balance patch I can make one for whomever wants one.

    ok many things that i read i like the problem is there are somethings that are not acceptable 1 The orc of dawnguard say s that the crossbow is a unique in the world think of the dawnguard so this mod is very lore breaking 2 i read someone say you create many new variant s of crossbow ,yet very lore breaking because you have to work hard to get a dwarven that its a unique , but with your mod it will be all for nothing dont make sense and its very lore breaking don't like it, good by.

    Really awesome mod, I don't wanna play Skyrim without it anymore!

    If you're going to release another patch, may I ask you to add to the archery enchantments the crossbow? Maybe crossbows are already affected by the enchantments, but I hope you can take some of your time to have a look at it.

    Greetings

    Edit: Did a little research. Crossbows are already affected by archery enchants from the vanilla.

    Started using it and as soon as I used an anvil I saw a few things wrong with it:
    1: the daedric versions of it are stronger than the dragonbone versions;
    2: the strongest crossbow is weaker than the dragonbone bow, same for the arrows vs bolts;
    3: the daedric crossbow, which is supposed to be the strongest, is on par with the cheap crossbow the orc at dawnguard fort gave me;
    4: the price is way off considering the material cost, I understand if you want to make them something a bit harder to get if people don't want to craft them, but I have 100 smith ingame and for me they are cleary stated as overprofittable.

    The last rebalancing made all crossbows only do half their original damage from looking at the changelogs, and I can see why they'd be op at full damage, here's my suggestion to fix it: make the crossbow 10 to 20% stronger than the bow of the same tier, it should balance itself out as crossbows are consirably slower than bows.

    "Isn't it funny how it requires years and years of martial training in the longbow to be able to use it effectively, yet 90% of skyrim are masters at it's use and operation?

    Crossbows revamped changes this. Crossbows, as guns would centuries later, revolutionized medieval warfare. Peasants could be quickly trained in their use and operation, unlike the use of longbows, which required years of training - and consequently higher costs.

    Crossbows are now in the hands of the people you would imagine using them - Bandits and Soldiers. They are also more readily available at vendors around the holds. Their damage is increased in order to give more a feel of 'If I get hit with this, it's probably going to kill me'"

    Unh huh. You are wrong. First of all, a short lesson in medieval politics. In the Middle Ages, the church held all or most of the power. Not the state. The Church. End of lesson. Now, onto why you are wrong. Crossbows were banned in the middle ages, by the church. They were like the assault weapons of their day, only you know, the Vatican probably isn't going to execute you for having an AR-15. If you were found in possession of a crossbow, you would almost certainly be executed by the church. Hunters, peasants, and nobleman alike would have little choice but to learn how to use a bow. Oh and learning how to use a crossbow isn't fast or easy. Crossbowman worked in teams of three and each member needed to learn how to use the damned thing. A crossbowman team usually consisted of the guy who carried the crossbow, the guy who carried the bolts, and the guy with the pavise. A pavise is a tall metal shield with what is essentially a kickstand. Please, if you are going to act like you are smart, at least do research. (You also forgot that bows come in many different sizes, shapes, and varieties)

    Edit: You would also need to know how to maintain all the complex mechanical parts, and a peasant knowing how to do that would be highly unlikely seeing as how most peasants barely knew how to read.

      Thanks for the renaissance faire history lesson, but I think you might have missed the true purpose of the author's description. The one thing everyone should understand about mod descriptions is they are essentially a type of sales pitch. Some users litter their description with hard and obscure facts, while others choose to appeal to the imagination. All of which serve the sole purpose of getting you to download and possibly endorse the mod itself. Let's not bash an author because his mod description isn't historically lore friendly, because it actually fits pretty decent into the world of Skyrim.

      You're absolutely right. This description does not conform with known historical fact. Therefore next we should get rid of dragons, magic and Skyrim altogether. Obviously these things have no place in a fantasy game and should be removed imediately. I look forward to seeing your mod that loads a black screen instead of a game. Thank you for your helpful comment and please go away.

      Oy. I don't know why this bothers me so much, but:

      1) The medieval church claimed to be the ultimate authority in Europe, yes. Soft power is not the same thing as hard power, though, and if the Pope didn't have anyone willing to lend an army to his cause, he was just a preachy guy in a nice hat. Kings were regularly excommunicated for going against the Pope's orders, and they weren't executed by Inquisitors or anything.

      2) There is debate whether the "ban crossbows" provision of the Second Council of the Lateran was authentic or a mistranslation. At any rate, the notion was to ban the use of crossbows against Christians. If that was indeed a part of the Second Council, it was evidently ignored, because crossbows were widely used in medieval armies.

      3) Building a crossbow requires some measure of mechanical skill. Operating and firing a crossbow does not, a soldier can pick up the knack in a few days. Contrast this with weapons like the longbow, which requires years of strength training to build the upper body strength necessary to draw the bow - this is why the English kings required their men to train year-round with them.

      4) I have no idea where you got this "team of three" thing, one crossbowman can carry the weapon, its ammunition, and a pavise on his back. Hiring three soldiers to operate one weapon is not very cost-effective.

      5) Maintaining a mechanical device does not require full literacy. A mercenary soldier who used a crossbow as his job would know how to keep it working, if not necessarily how to build it himself.

      I'm not a history major, this is stuff I picked up from various media and then double-checked on Wikipedia. Before you rant about someone else not doing the research, consider doing the research.

      This is fucking skyrim lmao, not a REALISTIC MEDEIVAL WORLD. Do you SEE any churches in skyrim that hold more power than the state? His description fits just fucking fine seeing as the LORE OF A MADE UP WORLD is different to THE LORE OF OUR ACTUAL WORLD you snarky prick lmao. Just because your mommy doesn't give you enough attention doesn't mean you have to go around acting self important. Take off your fedora, it's restricting bloodflow to your brain.

      PrestertheIgnorant,

      I like historical accuracy in games - when applicable - as much as you do, but your claims are very misleading. Several points:

      1. In regard to the theologico-political struggle of the medieval times, while the Vatican did claim absolute authority, its authority was not so absolute in practice. As a result, many temporal princes were frequently able to resist its authority successfully. In fact, the French kings in the 14th century were able to essentially hold the popes in hostage in Avignon.

      2. The infamous crossbow bban applied only to combat between Christians. It did not reach combat between Christians and infidels.

      3. The crossbow ban was almost universally ignored. For instance, during the English-French wars, often the entire French missile forces in a given battle would be comprised of crossbowmen.

      4. A "team" may be needed to operate the largest crossbows; most, however, did not.

    Is the standard crossbow supposed to do more damage than an exquisite elven one ?

    I very much like the idea of adding crossbows to the level lists, but I was hoping to keep the standard and dwarven types, rather than adding orcish, elvish, etc. Is there an older version that only uses the standard crossbow types? Thank you for the mod.

      Might be a bit of an old post, but "steel crossbow encounters" is a good way of simply adding steel crossbows to levelled lists. I actually used that mod before finding this one as i wanted more crossbow variety

      It runs fine and the crossbows are craftable and buyable, but the base attack value is way low... the basic steel crossbow is stronger than the ebony lol
