In Oblivion, you can choose whether or not to return it to Clavicus Vile, as Barbas suggests that you don't return it. Depending on how you played Oblivion, it may still exist in Skyrim. If I were the mod-maker, I'd possibly make two mod variants; both having quests. The first one would be a quest involving Clavicus Vile wanting it to be reforged, having you gather the materials needed from the physical plane. The second quest would be Clavicus Vile wanting you to retrieve the blade from a powerful warrior who used to serve Vile, and in serving Vile, you get the sword yourself. Either way, I'd at least make it be that the quest can't be started until you've completed the first quest for Barbas/Vile.

oddly, his shrine was the only one I was never able to find, so I never got to play with that interpretation of the sword.I hear it was pretty disappointing though. well lets face it, all the weapons in Oblivion were pretty disappointing compared to Morrowind's though

The sword was destroyed just over 150 years ago which is canon, it was destroyed during the events of the second Elder Scrolls book. The events of Oblivion took place 200 years ago.

there aren't any "Official" books written by anyone from Bethesda, at best it's a fan fiction set in the same world of TES, and therefore doesn't exactly count as an appropriate lore reference.

      ----

now if you'd like argue that maybe an ancient nord greatsword isn't the best model choice, go for it.but it's a fair choice given what's available in the vanilla game. It was never really that great of a weapon anyway compared to the likes of say... gold/bluebrand in the Morrowind game.

@TheAnger123, I was looking for lore about this but what I found never mentioned it being buried with the last person to wield it. Very interesting. I think this mod has brought us all closer together

The Umbra wasnt destroyed, the sword is lost, buried with the last person to wield it which drove him insane. Sel and attrebus continue their search in the next novel. the umbra which you mention that was destroyed was a person. whom split their soul to create Umbriel.

    Wasn't Umbra a 1 handed sword also?

Edit- Didn't notice your comment Edg3k. But yeah you got it.

Also a good point TehRibbles. Showing up in Skyrim just seems silly. Theres a few other mods that add this but Ive not used them based on that fact, but then again, it had 2 incarnations, a greatsword and a one handed sword, between Morrowind and Oblivion, and since its a Daedric artifact, it could, maybe, be reforged, BUT, I doubt they'd choose ancient nordic weaponry to model it on.

Since we are talking about lore accuracy, I might as well point out that Umbra no longer exists and was destroyed over 150 years ago.

This is Umbra. Yours is just a slightly retextured ancient nordic great sword. Nice attempt but, not even close.
