Pre-Quest is plug-and-play .It is recommended that you use this mod on a save that has never entered the sanctuary. If you've already completed the DB questline, or have already entered the Dawnstar Sanctuary you need to follow the installation instructions for this mod to work well.

Problem:
The Dark Brotherhood quest is a pretty good one. But the end result is pretty underwhelming. You end up with a new sanctuary that is filled with dust/cobwebs/fungus, doesn't have enough beds for everyone- basically an unlivable living space, and this is after you poured all your money into fixing it up!

Solution:
This is a mod that overhauls the Dawnstar Sanctuary at the end of the DB questline. I've gone though each section of the sanctuary and made the place have an air of realism; this is a sanctuary in a cold region (fireplaces and rugs) that a bunch of people are communally living in. I plan on having optional files available like the addition of secret passageways leading to the different holds.

What This Mod Does:
Main File
  • Sanctuary architecture/clutter/furniture/items/crafting stations have been added/edited/deleted to create a more pleasing realistic experience without losing the original feel.
  • Full compatibility with questline before and after completion* (see installation)
  • Gave Babette a custom more DB-ish outfit.
  • Torture victims now sleep in beds. This was a personal preference of mine rather then the mustache-twirly evil of just leaving the victims perpetually hanging in shackles till you decide to kill them. Now they are an excellent meal for vampires.
  • Added a working shrine to Sithis and books to study that give temporary crafting buffs.
  • Added two new followers (Need MFVM to use) and a smithy that will buy your stolen goods.

The Vanilla Family - optional file (Not started yet.)
  • Rename Initiates and gave them a makeover, Give all vanilla family members complex AI packages.

Secret Passageways - optional file (Not started yet.)
  • To be used with one of the main mods. This will add passageways to the different holds.

Torture Victims - optional file (Not started yet.)
  • To be used with one of the main mods. This will place prisoners back in shackles instead beds.

Compatibility
Feedback is appreciated! This mod should be placed below any lighting mods since I tweaked the lighting myself, but do whatever looks best to you. This mod uses modders resource packs, if you have any other mods that use the same assets NMM or your computer might ask you to overwrite some meshes or textures, this is ok. I will always strive for the most stable and compatible mod I can make.
Built for Skyrim 1.9.32.0+

Compatibility List:
The Dark Brotherhood Resurrection Part 1 by Jake Washenfelder - Untested personally, but I've had no reports of it being incompatible.

Incompatibility list:
Will not be compatible with mods that alter the sanctuary.

Installation
Pre-Questline (Before entering the Dawnstar Sanctuary)
  • Use NMM to download and install mod or download file manually.
  • If downloading manually extract the zip folder and drag it's Data folder into your Skyrim's install folder folder. (C:Program Files (x86)The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim) when it asks if you want to merge click yes.
  • Pay attention to your load order, this shouldn't conflict with much but your mileage may vary.
  • Load the game and play!

Post-Questline (After entering the Dawnstar Sanctuary)
  • Load your game and proceed to remove of all the stuff you want to keep from the Sanctuary before installing. I edited and deleted a lot of stuff, so don't complain to me if you install this mod and realize some of your stuff has disappeared because you didn't clean it out before hand.
  • Move to another internal world space.
  • Open the console by pressing the "~" key, then type:
  • resetinterior dawnstarsanctuary
    pcb
(This will reset the sanctuary and clear your games cache so the mod can work appropriately.)
  • Save game and exit. Use NMM to download and install mod or download file manually.
  • Load the game and then open the console by pressing the "~" key, then type:
  • resetinterior dawnstarsanctuary
    pcb
  • Visit your new sanctuary. You might find that there are a few items out of place, you just have to disable them. I've specifically deleted some objects in my mod that skyrim just simply refuses to listen to. Also, if anyone seems confused, open the console, click on them and type; "resetAI". If anyone is stuck, open the console, click on them and type; "moveto player", this will free them.

Upgrading
  • Check the little blurb of the newest file version to see if it requires a clean save. IF it does then follow regular clean save update procedure (removing all your stuff from the sanctuary). AND follow the installation instructions above.
  • IF no clean save is needed, just update the mod.

Uninstalling
  • Load your game, dismiss any DB followers and proceed to remove of all the stuff you want to keep from the Sanctuary.
  • Leave the sanctuary, go to another interior cell and type:
  • resetinterior dawnstarsanctuary
    pcb
  • Save your game and then uninstall the mod using NMM or remove files manually.
