so let me tell you what happened today 13 march 2018...
in 10min of testing this mod I've heard guard lines I had NEVER HEARD in the last 5 years and 1266 hours of skyrim gaming...NEVER !
crazy to think of all that wasted work because of a bad mechanic, thank you very much vroix :D
I ran around in light and heavy armor equipped blades and bows etc..

I believe there are a few spell effects that have "colorful" keyword in it (such as candlelight). Whenever that spell effect is on, the comment "colorful" will trigger.
If I'm not mistaken, there are not many vanilla spell effect that contain "colorful" keyword.

However, it's possible that this can happen to modded/ custom spells. I've created a spell that will enhance my stamina regeneration rate. Even though there are no visual effect on the spell, some npcs still comment "colorful" whenever that spell is on. This is because I created a new spell effect based on vanilla spell effect that has "colorful" keyword in it.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't pay attention to skyrim nexus for the past few weeks.
to answer your question, it depends on your weapon/armor. Misc category in the forge menu doesn't always mean the weapon/armor is categorized as Misc. If I recall correctly, armors/ weapons will be categorized as 'misc' on the forge menu if :

    • the weapon has 'silver material' keyword on it, or
    • the armor/ weapon doesn't have material keyword at all.

So it is quite difficult to make 'misc' categorized weapons has its own comment because it's hard to tell the exact keyword material that armor/ weapon has.
But if that weapon is made of silver, it is possible to create a comment for it.

Vanilla Skyrim doesn't provide comment on every materials. Bethesda creates the equipment comments for certain materials only
(iron, steel, elven, and ebony for weapons - sword only. hide, leather, iron, steel, steel plate, dwarven, orcish, and ebony for armors).
Armors/ weapons made from silver, glass, and daedric has no comments by default. But in theory, it should be possible to attach some vanilla comments to those materials.

    For example,
in vanilla 'Aye, now that's a beautiful sword like a sliver of midnight' is a comment for ebony sword. But we can make that comment to show up when we equip sword categorized as daedric or silver material. (If I'm not mistaken, my mod already done this... I think).

as for armor, in vanilla 'That armor... it's like nothing I've ever seen. Like forged midnight...' is a comment for nightingale armor. But we can make that comment to show up when we wear armor categorized as Daedric (If you think that is the proper/ matching comment for Daedric Armors).

I was planning to make some comments for other materials, but I can't find the proper dialogue for most of them.

I have question. What if weapon/armor from mod is categorized to misc? I just have problem, because my favourite sword is categorized as misc and i dont know if this mod will work on it :/ Is it possible to change this? Anyway, i see you have made a really good job!

Thank you very much for the endorsements. I assume everything works just as it intended, then?

I was planning to merge better guard skill comment mod with this. So the equipment comments will not be overridden by skill comments. But I'm not sure whether it is necessary or not.

This belongs to the mods that are required to maximize the immersion.
Really good work, I am often using mod-added armors/weapons.
    Endorsing ASAP.

Well, the comment is quite rare in vanilla too. Comments about quest, skill, and other random things often override the comments about equipment. I personally use a mod that makes skill comment will not appear unless I have at least 75 on the corresponding skill, which makes the comments on equipment appear more often. But it seems like at default the comments are set to appear once every 4 hours (in game hours).

Looks really good mate <img class=">, I'll definitely give it a go. Been using modded kit pretty much since the Skyrim Nexus was opened so I don't think I've heard most of the guards comments (except them taking the piss out of my poor iron greatsword :L).

Just curious, but how does it work exactly? Does it base the comments off their smithing category or is there a hidden attribute attached to every weapon regardless of whether it is custom or not?

Well, when I look at the condition of the comment, the default condition is the player have to equip the exact item/ editorid (meaning even if you wear an enchanted steel sword the guard will not give comment at all because you have to wear the exact 'steel sword'). What I do is simply change that condition, now it is based on a certain keyword material. Your guess is quite right, I alter the condition based on armor and weapons smithing material.
Almost every armor and weapons has keyword attached to them whether they are mod or vanilla items. For example, If you create a sword and add 'weapmaterialsteel 'keyword to it, the sword will be put in Steel category at the forge and also the game will think your sword is made of steel (even if you set it to be made of ebony ingot, as long as there's a 'weapmaterialsteel' keyword on it the game will still consider it as steel weapon).
