In real life wolves generally would try to avoid humans unless they were hungry, as with bears, it really depends on what kind of bear you are dealing with, bears don't sneak up on people they only attack people because they are territorial, not because they want to eat you. It's common to hear if you stand firm and make yourself look big some kinds of bears will come to respect that and leave, showing you aren't afraid of them. Others will just rip your face off. As with sabre cats, we can only assume they would behave like mountain lions because we don't actually know the exact behavior of sabre cats because they went extinct before we cared to study them as an intelligent species. Mountain lions are also territorial, but they usually don't charge unless you somehow provoke or threaten them, like making sudden movements or approaching it or it's cubs. With elk, well they aren't hostile in this game so elk are irrelevant. My point is animals aren't exactly ninjas when it comes to humans because they don't hunt people. We aren't their natural prey, so when we are sneaking around hunting animals, or just walking down the road, they will make noises, just like we do, because they typically don't try to avoid us detecting them. This mod does add difficulty, but it certainly doesn't add realism.
Just came back to say that the mod is working fine, and I'm enjoying the extra challenge it provides. I got tired of wolves and bears announcing themselves ahead of time, and this fixes that annoying thing. It also feels more natural now that wolves attack in pack silently ambushing the player.
Oh ok, in fact I was wondering if the bear's muted announce sound would also mute the attack sound as well, since it's the same sound file. Thanks for the clarification.
There are 2 distances in the ESP file the warning radius and the attack radius. I removed the warning radius so they give no warning sound. I had to do it this way because 2 of the attack sounds files use 2 of the warning sound files so I couldn't mute those. It's also used in the double attack radius download. It doubles the radius at which they detect you.
I have a doubt, I just downloaded the file and see there's a 'sound' folder, and an .esp file. If the sound folder contains the muted sounds for these animals, what's the .esp file for? If I just want them not to announce they are near, do I need the .esp file? Wouldn't the sound folder be enough?
