The idea behind the mod is awesome. I also dislike passive +20% damage increases that require you to dump tons of points into then to be effective, and force you to specialize in specific trees. Bethezda tried to swing away from too much specialization by condensing skills into one-handed and two-handed instead of a dozen skills, etc., but they screwed it up by limiting the choice with these +100% dmg perks.
It's sad to see so few endorsements for something that fixes this crap. It's probably because the abridged description of the mod is misleading. When I read it, I thought it's a mod that just removes all perks. You should rephrase it to say something like "converts perks that give passive +20%/100% increases into the skills themselves, depending on the level of the skills, and refunds you the perk points previously spent on these skills". Or something more clear, if possible. Otherwise, thanks for the mod, off to try it.
Although I do not play Skyrim yet, out of experience from previous Elderscrolls Games, I know that is necessary to Mod the levelling system because Bethesda always manages to screw this part up. This is definatly a Mod I will try the first day I start playing Skyrim
Looks interesting. I think I'll give it a try. One problem I encountered is that this page lists the latest version as 1, but the latest file is 1.2, so my mod manager is unhappy. If you can update the latest version information, that would be great.
Don't lose heart (re: your comment about not getting enough attention). It's a cool idea, but here's a couple of suggestions:
Change the intro text a bit - I found it confusing, so here is a suggested replacement: " This mod REPLACES all skill-improving perks with behind-the-scenes mechanics that give you the same boosts (a bit like the auto-perks from Oblivion, when you hit 25, 50, 75 and 100 in a skill). Now you can use perks solely for refining your character, not for stuff that should come from skill-improvements.
The mod also makes the boost-progression curve more smooth, so, for example, there isn't a sudden jump from +200% to +300% when you go from level 99 to level 100 in a weapon skill. This works for NPCs as well.
This mod is modular, so you can use it the way you want. "
I also suggest that you remove the weapon images - they don't really explain anything - and add in images of ALL the trees, so people can see exactly how their favourite skills will look with this mod installed.
I thinks it's a great idea, as I said, and I agree that the game should have been like this from the get-go.
