Delphine's improvement with blocking will go slowly since she isn't a melee class per se. In the creation kit she was built with her primary assets going towards magicka and restoration. She was designed (per request) to be a healer, but the creation kit and the game's AI doesn't allow it to work quite like I was hoping it would.
Taja's a spellcaster if I remember correctly. I don't remember giving her a shield when she was created (I could be wrong on this since I uploaded her a few days ago and I've been releasing a lot of companions lately).
@ Necromanx2: If they aren't leveling properly (and this is the fist instance I've seen of it not working) here are some things you can try.
Try uninstalling/re-installing (especially if you used Nexus Mod Manager to download/install them). The mod manager is responsible for about 99% of the errors that have been reported with my mods (meaning a manual download/install fixed people's issues).
If all else fails (or you don't want to go through the trouble of re-installing) you can open the console, target the NPC in question, and type setav health (and then the number of hit points). You can also do this for their Magicka and their Stamina. She most likely isn't using the full compliment of spells she has due to her mana being too low.
None of my companions should ever register as first level (since the lowest level they can be is level . They are assigned to auto level from level 8 up to level 80.
