I discover these textures only now, after almost 10 years. Which is refreshing because I have used all sorts of "better" Whiterun textures during my years of Skyrim gaming. Seeing these now they demonstrate how beautiful and tasteful Beth' original artistic design is.

I'm using them in SSE out of the box, no problems I can see.

This is the best vanilla style retexture mod I ever seen. Oh, why have you stopped working on Skyrim? D:

I would love to see more of your mods, Riften and Solitude could use some touch here and there

Anyone tested this to see if it's compatible with Skyrim Special Edition yet?

I think I'll give it a shot with DDSOPT. I've never done it before but I guess it's time to learn.

    Hey Chris,

As the author of this thread here:

    http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1330609-if-youve-released-a-texture-mod-or-plan-to-please-read/page__fromsearch__1

I can say that your mod, while fantastic, can definitely be improved by recompressing (read the thread). Remember recompressing doesn't change the quality (actually, DDSOpt will had detailed mipmaps for you and increase quality) but also, with smaller file sizes, makes it smaller to upload too

If you are short on time, I can upload a DDSOpt version for you, but you would need to give me file upload access to this page. If you do it yourself, grab the latest DDSOpt here: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5755

EDIT: just realised some people have already mentioned the therad. Take it as a compliment that so many people including me take the time to let you know

By default this weighs in at 226M zipped, 487M uncompressed. However for whatever reason, while Chris has saved his textures containing an alpha layer and normalmaps correctly as DXT5, there's a large number of textures without alpha also saved as DXT5 when they can be saved as DXT1 for a significant memory saving. Re-compressing Chris's mod using DTX1 where needed gives us:
      Default -- 487M
      Recompressed -- 362M

well that was harsh... now I know why ppl get banned twice for saying the same, for whatever reason in being a moron it could possibly be, at least modern cards could have up to 6 gigs of vram. So nevermind the optimization

You are right Mmmmmm, I just optimized the color maps from DXT5 to DXT1 (1 bit alpha) and really helped ingame, with no image quality lost.

I also did this with some popular armor compilation and monster compilation mods.

This is the best re-texture of a city on the nexus. The walls surrounding Whiterun were bothering me for the longest time, and you really did a nice job fixing it. I've had this mod since it came out and I still revert back to it despite all the other texture mods which have been made.
