Once, when I was a boy, I loaded my first ever game of Skyrim and proceeded to play through the main story. After receiving a housecarl for the first time (Lydia), I remember thinking: "Good lord she's useless." Now, with this fine mod, I'm able to take her around Skyrim with me, enjoying a different, yet still utterly useless, version of Lydia that I've grown to love (in all kinds of ways.). Thank you for your service.
Although this is not a mod for me, I still appreciate any kind of NPC skill overhaul, and especially If that NPC is Lydia who I like a lot for some reason....maybe because she's smocking hot!
Personally I prefer her to be a more straight forward Nord and closer to vanilla, really the only thing she needs are a few perks and her level cap removed! What I do is give her a significant amount of perks in almost every skill she is good at (might go overboard TBH)! Which are One Handed, Two Handed, Archery and Heavy armor skills....I might have replaced the Two Handed skill advantage with a shield skill....I don't really remember!
But now with these skill overhauls she behaves very differently in battle, choosing to use a Bow far more frequently especially if it is a good one! Thus getting in the way only If the enemy is too close to her, instead of always like she use too! What I think happens in vanilla is that her AI decides due to her crappy ranged skill that the best course of action is to get to the enemy ASAP before they have the time to launch a ranged attack, but when she gets there she just can't finish the job quickly enough due to again the lack sword skills or rather perks! Thus she just ends up not only taking a lot of damage by the enemy, but also the player! More often than not ending up dead.
