Both stories written by the talented Nataly1q2w3e4r5t:
Words spoken and Unspoken - Part Two
Words spoken and Unspoken - Part One
The Company agents had found Ondolemar missing and had assumed he had died with the rest ... but sadly the scoundrel had been out plotting with Elenwen and still lives. I expect he and Elenwen may eventually cause some problems for Grim!
I admit I'm smiling rather wide at how out-of-place Grim would be as Archmage of Winterhold! I'm reminded a bit of my very first character Aldrik, who unfortunately had no one like Avrein to pass it to. (I imagine Aldrik's duties are mostly ceremonial, given he's a barbarian warrior who can barely cast a spell unless you count his dragon shouts. ) May Avrein do well in his new post!
Seems Grim is still plenty superhuman, even without most of his divinity, as Erik must know well after this (good thing he doesn't have to go anywhere for a while ). Grim looks good in that beard, too, though I won't be at all surprised to see him shaved again later.
I like the winter pics, and the epilogues with the Caretaker and Sam. Cool effects on Fenrir, too! I imagine it must be rather unpleasant to be a Thalmor in Skyrim at this point.
And I think Maramal will have a ceremony to perform sometime soon.
Anyway, well done as always, Jon, both pics and story! I'm looking forward to Book IV!
Yea I could not see Grim as Arch-Mage in any way. Avrein is hanging out in top tower relaxing and enjoying himself immensely, although he does miss Elisha. I also can't Aldrik really doing much with the position either
Grim still has above average abilities for sure - he is dragonborn at the very least (although not THE Dragonborn) plus his blood and soul is still that of Fenrir, Alfrun, Hircine, Kynareth, and Lorkhan. Just his body is more mortal now as it lacks the power of divinity.
He shaves regularly - I so LOVE that mod. It is a required mod now for me. Just adore how his beard changes dynamically on its own.
Thanks very much for the comment and glad you enjoyed the story! Erik and Grim may have some romantic plans coming
It is unusual that the psijic monks would not have foreseen that meddling of Mora, an object of such power was sure to draw the attention of those of the daedric realms, but I guess Mora can be quite inisdious when he wants to be. It is good that they took away the eye, keeping it from the hands of those who would foolishly try to harness its power for their ambitions, they may have to wait long for one wise enough to use it correctly. Avrein becoming archmage sure is a great fit for him, with that very keen and inquisitive mind of his, his knowledge and wisdom is sure to help the others of the college, and he is sure to find many mysteries to uncover answers to.
Fenrir sure showed his displeasure at having been trapped away for so long, colds winds and snow sweeping across the lands of Skyrim, he sure knows how to make his presence felt. Was amusing that mention of the wintery conditions interfering with Maven's trade routes, that hope Grim had that she may decide to move to the warmer climes of Cyrodil. It is also good to see some justice brought to that scheming inner council of the Thalmor, hunted my wolves of snow and frost, facing the winter wolf directly, great teeth making short work of them. Looks like Elewen was left to watch her fellow Thalmor die once more.
The shots of those moments between Fenrir and Grim are endearing as was that concern of Fenrir over what his son had done to save him, that her forgave him for the risk he took. Fenrir could not hide the fondness behind that aloof attitude it seems, him licking Grim's face betraying his feelings. It is nice for Erik that Grim is back to the self that he knows well, that unfamiliar divine side having retreated. They certainly deserve some time to share together far from the troubles of Skyrim, at least for a little bit.
I very much like that glimpse into the future with Sam finding one with a kindness so familiar, the one who carried the soul of the brave Elisha. It is nice the promise he made to himself, that he would do better as Elisha had said and keep her safe to enjoy her life, Flora does not know how great her luck truly is. Really enjoyed seeing what all are up to after that trouble with the eye, fantastic work, Jonathan
I wanted to make the cabin feel safe, cozy, and warm since it is a time of peace and quiet for the trio. Grim still heals quickly (his body at least) so he is back in prime physical shape and has all his natural and preternatural talents in good shape. Just the divine aspects are going to be a long time coming so for now mostly mortal.
The monks might have suspected Prince involvement but Mora acted to fast. When Ancano started to tamper with the Eye was when Mora erected the barrier - at which points the Monks got locked out. They showed up as soon as they could. They are pretty mysterious. Everyone just let them take the Eye so I guess they are trustworthy.
I could almost feel sorry for Elenwen lately if I didn't dislike (perhaps despise) the Thalmor so much. She certainly has plenty of attitude but Grim and Nataly have put her through a lot .. but really no more than she has put them through in turn. At least most of the Thalmor got ... removed ... from Skyrim but I expect they will be back eventually unless the something changes in the treaty with the Empire, or the Stormcloaks win.
Glad you enjoyed the reunuin of Fenrir and Grim. Wanted it to be special while also making it clear Fenrir is a powerful divine spirit and thus has a different perception of things. Still Grim is his son and so he does tend to give him a bit more attention! Likewise I wanted Sam and Elisha/Flora to have some closure as well ... even if Sam won't know about it for a while to come. A little surprise for him down the road as it were.
Very happy you enjoyed this conclusion to book III and Grim's main story line with Fenrir. Was a lot of effort so nice to have a little break before I do more. Thanks again for your kind words!
I do have to say Ambrosia was very happy that Ondolemar is safe as she was not looking forward to coming home to Skyrim and then having to sit down with Grim as he has killed her only family left in Skyrim ( not counting Stragon he is more then family to her.) I know he can be a pain but well sooner he was an alive pain lol...............
Aye I had debated about Ondolemar and then realized he needed to be alive for a variety of reasons and not just for myself - clearly Ambrosia would like him alive :-) Also with some stories from Nataly's world he is also alive. I also need him for some future stories. I just forgot to adjust it before I posted as it was something I realized late.
Greetings from the Lowlands
I always start a fresh game install (wipe out all saves, mods, etc.) for a new character but in this case it isn't a new character as I want to continue with Grim (who is only level 30 at the moment) and I still haven't even done the Dragonborn DLC, built a home for Hearthfire (something Grim and Erik wish to do), or many other quests. Story telling and image taking is very time consuming.
So the only reason for a new game would be a fresh look (new mods) and clean save. Except last night I ran my games through all the main "cleaners" and everything came up as 0 for problems. I added/removed some non-scripted mods (textures, few town mods) and so may end up just going with a facelift versus a complete remodel.
Anyhow thanks for the comment
Then I got into the nexus, which kept me going playing this game. I started making screenshots then too.
Why I'm telling you this? Because I'm jealous really. Only level 30...
Strangely I do not use any mods to make the game harder either. But I have a set of rules for Grim that make it hard anyhow. No enchantments, ever. The only exception are weapons/armor/accessories that are divine as I consider those not powered by souls but by the power of the daedra/aedra (in my head at least). So Dawnbreaker and Ring of Fenrir (custom mod I made) are OK. Sword of blasting? Boots of sneaking? Nada, nope.
Conjuration is also out. Grim also wears just leather armor (like to see his chest) and I don't buff it except for smithing and I don't put perks into smithing so a bit limited there. So level 30 and still using level 5 armor. Weapons are a bit better (using Nordic at the moment).
I don't use a mod for inventory (other than SkyUI) so I manually limit it. Can't carry more than 10 potions at any time, limited food, supplies, outfits, etc. No fast travel. Anyhow point is my own personal rules make the game pretty hard for him.
Hard to level skills in werewolf form which he uses. Also he does a lot of stealth - which is often a one shot with daggers and the stealth perks. So once stealth was maxed (which he did at level 29) his other skills tend to go pretty slowly. He dies if hit to often so I move around a lot so armor goes very slow.
The TLR here is that I think I am a little like you. First 10 levels is often the best and most exicting. Once I get much past 30 things start to get to easy to kill. Or I die very fast from the few really tough monsters as one or two hits can take Grim down in his light armor. I have made a few changes this time so hoping I can get to about 40 before it becomes to easy. By then I will probably consider a new character OR re-start him at level 1 again and keep writing. I really love Grim as a character and a concept - favorite character in over 35 years of gaming easily.
Anyhow thanks for sharing some of your character playing insight!
Thanks for your answer
Of course there history has not changed - just that with Fenrir free and his destiny fulfilled I can have him do other stories, possibly come up with a new major plot line, and thinking it might be nice to do that in a new game.
My absolute favorite shot is THIS ONE ! Epic...
Happy 2015 to you and i hope you will have a great year !
The mod I used is by the same person you mentioned so probably why the trees are there. I used the winter one. Was perfect for the ending of the story and Fenrir's big return to Skyrim and the northern hemisphere of Nirn. I have mods that add trees to city so I expect the winter mod used some of the same meshes but with different textures - my best guess at least.
Glad you liked the shot of the Caretaker as he headed to his workshop Have a great new year yourself!
You answered all those questions I had left from the last chapter (like what it will look like for Grim being a 'kind-of mortal' now). The acorn / oak analogy was awesome. Great way for me to wrap my mind around what will happen. And I love how in the end, the Old Wolf finally got his way; Grim and Erik (and Wolfgar) in his own pack... one day.
Your resolution for Avrein was fantastic. it's the one option i'd never considered for him. You know what I'd have done (killed him! ), so it was nice to see him go to a place that was perfect for his hunger and thirst for knowledge and magic. A place where he would be respected for being the intellectual he is... though he'd better keep that beast blood tempered!
I find it interesting that in your world, winter weather is synonymous with healing the hurts done to Skyrim at the hands of the Thalmor, when in most fantasy, a blanket of winter weather would herald some great evil or danger. Nice twist. I guess that's the Nord mythology coming into play. Nice that it put Maven out... that gave me a chuckle!
But my favourite bit of the whole epilogue is that Grim and Erik get their chance to have a 'normal' life together. Grim has shed that Divine anger and ethereal duty that has been driving him this Book and become the loveable goofball again that Erik once met and fell in love with. And there can never be any better lines written than these:
"Bed? But I'm not even tired." Erik teased.
"Oh you will be by the time I’m done with you." Grim promised as he picked Erik up and tossed him onto the bed.
You had me grinning like a moron at my screen and actually cheering on the good guys. Well done, take a breath and a bow and then a long earned sleep. You deserve it. And when you're refreshed I expect to see Book IV coming to a screen near me!!!
PS: Shots are epic, the giant wolf... wow.
Fenrir hadn't eaten in an eon so seemed like snacking on Thalmor was the appropriate thing for him to do. Helped restore a lot of his lost energy in the process. I thought the nature analogy would work best for Grim as well. It pretty much sums it up. The main difference between him and, say Erik, is that he still has the DNA/Blood and Soul of divine beings as part of his make-up. Arkay, Lorkhan, Hircine, Kynareth, Fenrir ... all of them have some of their essence in his make-up. It can no more be taken away from him then you could remove traces of ethnic background from a human. Instead it is that deep reservoir of power and "size" of his soul that could be drained. Fenrir is a small god and a "mortal" god so eventually he will simply fade away - much like the Aedra did when they helped form Nirn. When he is ready he shall walk into the woods of the world and simply fade into the natural world becoming part of it. When that happens Grim should finally be ready to take his place. Unlike Fenrir, however, I expect Grim shall have the company of Erik and Wolfgar at his side.
Avrein will make a great Arch-Mage I suspect; he was almost built for the position. I also expect him to be a very active one which the College needs. He also believes in Erik's idea to rebuild the town with the help of the college and he will make that happen. He almost died once so I figured I didn't want to pull that a second time.
In regards to Winter I wasn't thinking about it as a healing time. It was actually meant as a warning (primarily to the Thalmor) that Fenrir had been free. It was a symbol of danger although not to the Nords. However it was not evil in any way. Fenrir is more a force of Nature and the Lord of Winter. It would only be natural for him to unleash a winter storm when he was freed.
I also wanted Grim and Erik to have a chance at a regular life together. In the future, in Hircine's realm, I expect Hircine will train Erik to be one of his Champions and a form of "Greater Daedra" who will continue to be Grim's partner when Grim takes over Fenrir's role. But Fenrir and Hircine both agree they need a chance to life simply as mortals so they are going to interfere as little as possible. Of course Grim's enemies could care less and he has powerful enemies ... so I expect there may be some help from his family from time to time. But, for now at least, they can pretend to live a normal life for a little bit. Also, as you said, there won't be that divine coolness and anger that was breaking them apart anymore. Grim is fully human in that sense and there won't be any losing himself in the divine world. His emotions and personality will be 100% human/animal just like he was before.
Glad you enjoyed the last few lines of them together - I really enjoyed that myself! And glad you enjoyed the images - I wanted to make Fenrir impressive and use the fiercer textures. Thanks again for the support through all of Grim's stories!
