The Twilight Forest is a lovely place isn’t it? Is this a place you’ve made up or is it in the game? It’s interesting how different Aela and Dannee’s approaches to battle are. Both have their own merits and both are what you’d expect from each respectively; the calm, cool Dragonborn, and the hot-blooded wolf woman. Probably good that Sofie gets a grounding in both forms of combat. And I think it was good for Aela to be challenged by Sofie – the ever perceptive little thing that she is! She forced the huntress to reveal some intimate parts to herself and maybe admit that she DOES have a softer side to her bestial nature.
I knew that Dannee would have no harsh words for Serana about what happened back in Solitude; it surprised me that knowing Dannee as well as she does that Serana thought there might be some sort of reproach from the Dragonborn. It was also surprising to see Aria again! I hadn’t thought we’d meet the lovely assassin again. It seemed Serana was particularly touched at meeting her too (I wonder if there might be something between these two? ). I have a feeling we’ll see Aria again…
A very nice ‘wrap up’ to the events in Solitude and nice to see Dannee have a respite break… even if sultry Sam didn’t make an appearance!
Oh, Serana indeed behaves like an old crotchety aunt to Sofie, being all stern or cranky, she is not like Dannee in her methods, but Sofie loves her too. I am very glad that you like the family dynamic between three of them!
The Twilight Forest is a mod, very beautiful one (I use The Twilight Forest - Optional Ambience because in original file the scenery is too dark to make images), here it is - http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/11007/?
Aela and Dannee are really very different with their approach not only to fight but to everything. Sofie is lucky to learn from two of the, she knows that being crafty can help to survive and it is even better that she has two different role model example... though Sofie prefers Dannee's approach more. However Sofie has a big heart and empathy, so even opposing to Aela's ways, she made her see softer side of herself.
I am very glad that you've liked Aria's comeback! I felt that her story should have left hanging, so I've wanted her to show Seran the consequences of her good deed. Seran has kind of soft spot towards lovely Aria, while Aria has genuine sympathy for her and maybe even a hero crush.
Thank you very much again for your kind words!
Very interesting to hear Serana speaking much like the compassionate Dannee. I had wondered why Serana had spared Aria and had assumed this had all been learned from Dannee, but I see now it was more then that, she had seen herself in Aria and understood that people can change with love and compassion. Very moving.
I love how Aela refers to Serana as Dannee's "Fanged Friend" and Serana refers to Aela as "Furball" Somehow I suspect in a battle situation that those two would make a formidable team.
I did catch a hint at what I have been wondering about for some time now, What is Sofie's true lineage? As I think it was no mere "accident" that brought Sophie and Dannee together.
VERY interesting!
Loved this chapter!!!
Well, Sera has borrowed few positive traits from Dannee, like sympathy and some of compassion. Yes, you are right, Seran has spared Aria not only because of Dannee lessons of humanity but because lost unlucky girl has reminded her too much of herself, so Serana thought that if she has changed, Aria can too... and she wasn't mistaken.
Oh, Aela and Seran would have made formidable team, if they solved their misunderstandings, for Seran was raised to make fun of werewolves and Aela thinks that all vampires are lazy, useless, overly emotional melancholics. But if their mutual friend like Dannee will be in danger, I guess they can make it though past bickering.
I am so glad that you've noticed that bit about Sofie's true lineage! Indeed she is too wise for her years and seems to posses hidden resources, so that what made Aela wonder about her powers... and I think that it was not a chance but fate that brought Dannee and Sofie together. Aela of course will share her thoughts about Sofie to Dannee, so she might get very intrigued too and maybe try to hold some investigation...
Again thank you very much for your kind and encouraging words!
Like the whole scene with Aela and Sofie out in the Twilight Forest - great place to do some training. Interesting take on using anger to fuel the 6th sense as well as how to calm down from such an anger. Some nice insights into Aela's past as well. It is nice when a child can enjoy their youth in a more carefree way yet at the same time it can also mean a rude awakening when they get older so perhaps it is best to avoid extremes and give them some training and exposure as they get older - at least that is how I would probably approach it and that is how Grim is doing it with Lucia.
It was also great to see Aria again, who is indeed very pretty, and to let Serena have the role as a mentor for a change, with someone looking up to her as the friend. Probably good for Serena's own self-outlook as well. I think Aria made the right decision on focusing on the key person to get revenge on for her sister. It has provided closure to that old way of life. Now she can move forward with her past remembered yet closed behind her. Hopefully she will do good at the college.
Some great shots between all the characters with a lot of warmth and fun between clearly shown in the poses and expressions. Glad everyone has had a nice respite
I've planned this chapter to be more of a filler, yet it was intended to cover all loose ends from two previous stories, but mostly to tell about Aria's fate.
I am very glad that you've liked that bit with Aela and Sofie in Twilight Forest! Dannee has so many enemies, she knows as well as Sofie who was already almost fell prey to vampires and Thalmor spy, although in second case, she kinda caused that situation herself. but in any case, she must learn to protect herself or at least be in good for to run for her life, if the danger will be too great.
Oh, indeed, for Seran is was endearing to fee herself in a role of mentor for Aria, since usually Serana is the one who follows Dannee. Aria indeed has moved on from her past and wants to embrace the future.
Thank you very much again for your kind words!
It was nice to see little Sophie take the narration over and share the story of her time spent with Aela with their caretakers. The scene in an inn when the three women were bantering, Serana drinking so much, Dannee deep in thoughts about her complicated love life (poor thing!) and Sophie complaining about making her go to bed at nine was really nice. Such is the way family works: everyone is minding their own business and yet they all work together as a whole. Delightful scene!
Memories of the little one concerning her trainings with the fiery Companion was also very lovely. The woman was surely right to teach her that she needed to depend more on her guts, follow the instincts, believe that she could do it. Taking Sofie to that mysterious Twilight Forest with huge trees and disturbing lack of sounds of the wildlife to test her was also a valuable lesson. Facing her dark memories and learning how to cope with them in order to stay in control of her own mind and actions was surely a purifying experience! Sometimes we just have to be challenged in order to truly let it go.
Also, Sofie's attachment to Dannee is truly endearing. She really found her home at her side along with Serana which is more than many Skyrim orphan could dream of. After all, being an adopted child of a legend must not be so bad...
The last scenes, the ones between Serana and that Aria character, were a pure joy to read! So subtle, filled with emotions unexpressed and wors unspoken, and yet so packed with feelings!
Anyway, it was a truly delightful read and my incoherent comment is really insufficient. Great job, dear!
I am very happy that your enjoyed family scenes, they are fun to write and indeed, like in Dannee’s family case, everyone minds their own business but can perfectly work as whole at any moment.
Sofie’s training was very important in her upbringing, and there was also a good moment to dwell into her feelings as she had that emotional conversation with fiery Aela. Indeed Sofie got challenged and she truly let go of her past, because now she is happy with Dannee. She loves her dearly and Sofie would still feel the same feelings towards Dannee if she was not a Dragonborn.
I am glad that you’ve liked Aria and Serana scenes! There were indeed a lot of unspoken things; Aria clearly wants to mean something more to her then just a saved soul, since she never had friends in her entire life while Serana doesn’t seem to mind it... Especially while drunk.
Aria really can do a lot of good, Seran feels connection with her because once upon a time he was as lost as Aria but managed to find her way. so she wishes the same for lovely former assassin. Maybe they will met again some day...
