It also never ceases to amaze me how you've turned your Riften from a cesspit and den of inequity into a quite beautiful place. Your descriptions of the town are soothing and vibrant at the same time. A refreshing look at the most 'corrupt' city In skyrim.
I love earring (and seeing) Edrelle sneak and it truly explains how she's risen so high in the thieves guild ranks; truly her stealth skills are unmatched! I'm keen to see where this new clue will take the gang... What dangerous journey or wonderful adventure awaits?
The way I think of Riften is that despite the fact that it has a dangerous and shady side to it, there is some beauty to be found in it, some life to it even among its troubles. Great to hear my descriptions of the city are soothing and vibrant. glad they give a different perspective on the city.
I am very happy you love hearing and seeing Edrelle in her element, walking with silent steps in that home, her skills sure did help with gaining some trust from the guild; I think only Honey Stripes can outmatch her in stealth. I think the group also wonders where that clue will take them, I will say that Edrelle will learn a little more about one of her friends but I don't want to reveal too much ^^
I was never able to convince that big lug of a brute Vald to help me out, so I'm glad that Edrelle was able to find the quill and release him from his debt to Maven.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this latest masterpiece of yours, Kamikaze , so be sure to keep up the excellent work!
He is a very stubborn one, I think both times I did the quest I had to retrieve that quill to get rid of Vald, Edrelle was glad too that she found that lost quill.
I am very glad you really enjoyed this chapter, DoC, I will keep up the good work
So now they are yet another step closer to the elusive Mercer!
My favorite part was when Honey Stripes was joking with Dimitri, calling him the "Hungry one"
Yep, they step by step they are catching up to that traitorous Mercer.
Hehe, glad you like Honey Stripes little joke about Dimitri's thoughts of food so much, was my favorite part to write in this chapter
You're a good writer and you have a nice, poetic style to your descriptions, I look forward to reading the next part of their stories. I will end here to keep my praise short and sweet
Happy you think I am a good writer and that I have that poetic style, I guess I do have a bit of a poet side. Glad you look forward to reading more
I do love your wonderful descriptions of Riften city and its surroundings. It was very heartwarming to read about heroes interactions, I adore the love and affection that Edrelle and Dimitri are showing to each other, it is very endearing. Also I loved Dimitri playful banter with Honey Stripes or rather hers with him, his reaction to pet names was priceless, certainly Honey Stripes has great sense of humor.
I was very interested of how Edrelle planed to deal with Vald, he is a tough guy so using brute force was out of question, not that Edrelle or any of her companions ever favored such approach. Edrelle was in his style, showing help and kindness. I've noticed that when faced with variety of choices she prefers most peaceful and noble way. In this case to help Vald find that quell of Maven... Oh, that woman is really something, to punish poor guy for just losing a quell, but she was never paragon of virtue. Edrelle was not afraid to get into water and it is great she had found a quell, hope she won't catch a cold because the water there certainly was not warm.
So, thanks to her help, Vald was free to go, which he did hilariously running away like scared rabbit while Edrelle was once again faced with uneasy investigation of Mercer's house. That guy is sure rightly paranoid to place such trap into his house as well as hiding his secrets so well, but Edrelle is professional like Dimitri will say later...
By the way I've liked that nod to Grey Fox from times of Oblivion Crisis, one of the greatest thieves in recorded history. And he was as noble as Edrelle in his approach to people and business and they both are so unlike people like Mercer. Now that Edrelle has a new clue, certainly new adventures await for her and her friends and I guess that raven was not just a bird... maybe Nocturnal took interest in thieves guild affairs, who knows...
I will be looking forward for continuation and thank you for sharing your wonderful work!
Vald was one obstacle that was not as easy to deal with than a trap, his attitude does make force not the best of solutions, you are right that they are not the kind for that kind of approach. She does show kindness even to some with a bad attitude. She does like to deal with situation in a more subtle way, not sinking to the level of some thieves. Was not the easiest of tasks she found herself doing to get him out of the way, Maven is cruel to toy with the man after he lost that quill, she is one that seems to enjoy putting fear into others. Water is not a foe of Edrelle's luckily with the teachings of her mother, she is quite tough so I doubt the chill of the water will trouble her though she was glad when Tacita pulled her out of that lake.
Indeed his invisible chain that kept him tied to that home was broken, Vlad certainly did not want to stick around in case Maven changed her mind, glad you found it funny how he ran away like a scarred rabbit. He did have reason to keep his secrets well secured to escape the keen eyes and ears of the others thieves for sure, he defenses did not quite stand up to the skill of Edrelle, he was not as careful as he thought.
I still remember the Gray Fox and many tasks for the guild well from Oblivion so I though I would give a little nod to him, very glad you liked it, he was the honorable thief as Edrelle is, the tales she heard of him as a child do seem to have influenced her some. The plans she found are sure to lead to some adventure, perhaps that raven was acting as Nocturnal's eyes over the situation but only she would know.
Great to hear you will be looking forward to the continuation, thank you for sharing your thoughts, Nataly
The banter with Dimitri is great and I enjoyed his little quip about being better on a full stomach The interaction with Honey Stripes is also fantastic - Dimitri was very cute in how he reacted to his pet names lol. The raven shot is great and I felt it was like an omen ... although good or bad hard to say at first glance. Perhaps it was Nocturnal paying some attention to what was happening.
Ah so it was diving for the quill that explained that shot. I saw it out of context before and I was like, whoa did she have to much to drink and was parading around Riften ... of course Tacita would never let her do such I think I suspect. Grim does it but few folks are going to stop him
Now the shot makes a lot more sense and is a very clever way to do it. Luckily Grim is usually in his barbarian gear which doesn't really weigh him down. It is good Edrelle is a good swimmer because that quill is very difficult to find. Smart thinking to look for the boat and then check there for the chest. On the other hand benig so demanding with Maven was very risky - I doubt she likes her "underlings" making deals with her. Yet Edrelle held her ground and I suspect the quill was very valuable for Maven. Not to mention Maven has benefited in other ways from Edrelle (much to Edrelles annoyance I imagine ... I know it grates on Grim's nerves).
Good that she got the ramp working quickly and made her way inside, sneaking past the guards and working her way carefully through all the traps Mercer had ... he was a very paranoid person it seems
Glad she got out safely and accomplished the mission without incident, she is very skilled indeed as Dimitri states. Great images and story and looking forward to the next installment!
Dimitri is one for those little quips when the others are teasing him, he does have a tendency to be often hungry. Did have some fun writing that interaction with Honey Stripes, Dimitri reacting to her teasing pet name, happy you found it amusing. That raven in the starry sky might have been an omen but if it was good or bad that is a mystery of the night. I think it likely that Nocturnal would be paying some attention to the chase for Mercer.
It is true that the shot was a bit misleading without the context of Edrelle seeking out that lost quill, you are right that Tacita would stop her before she did anything that embarassing, she is watchful like a sister. With Grim's stature I don't see many getting in his way if her was parading around
Just wanted to hint to her swim in the lake with that shot, good to hear it was a clever way to do it. Dressing lightly as he often does seems to have its advantages. Edrelle's mother did make sure she knew what she needed to survive, swimming was one of those things, it sure did help with finding that quill. She is one with good instincts for finding things lost, comes with being a thief I guess. Edrelle knew the value of the quill to Maven, that she would not want to lose it again, so she took the risk of being a little demanding, I suspect she did not appreciate not being the one in control. Maven does have reasons not to chase Edrelle away that is for sure (it does irk Edrelle that some of her tasks where of help to that scheming one as it does for Grim).
Was good that the mechanism worked as Bryn had said, it seemed Mercer did not pay much for those guards with their lack of attention and though deadly his traps where but an interesting challenge for Edrelle ... he certainly worried about one seeing through his many lies behind his arrogant attitude
She was quite pleased that she found those plans without trouble, she would like to hear that you find her very skilled as he beloved archer does. Thank you very much, Jonathan, look forward to sharing that next installment ^^
