Considering Karliah and Edrelle reveal about Mercer it was dangerous of course to wander into the center of thief Guild itself, knowing that Mercer did a great work filling the heads of other thieves with lies bout Karliah and the cause of Gallus death. Luckily despite his fiery temper, fitting for his hair color, Brynjolf proved to be also a reasonable man, and after learning shocking truth he redirected his anger from Karliah to Mercer, who did wonderful job of stealing from thieves... Now the gloom reality has revealed itself in true glory and I wonder how far Edrelle will go with helping Guild... Will she accept leadership? in my opinion she always appeared more like the one who prefers to live free than tie herself with leading something do impressive as entire organization. I guess only time could tell about the outcome of her journey...
Besides she has new quest to fulfill, to persuade Vald to let her in Mercers house, which might prove challenging... I am looking forward for continuation!
Was indeed quite the risk walking into that cistern, like walking into a den of growling wolves on edge, Mercer did weave his lies well that they had to take such a risk to unravel them. It is fortunate that Brynjolf was willing to listen, that he was not blinded by anger, learning that his foe was much closer than he thought, Mercer did hide his theft very well to outwit all other thieves. As for how far Edrelle will go in helping the guild even I am not sure of that, you are right that she is not one to tie herself down with that responsibility of leadership but much of her path is left to be walked so things may change, time will tell indeed
There is not much rest when one is chasing an elusive one like Mercer it seems, Vald will be some trouble I am sure, like a grumpy bear he is... Look forward to sharing another chapter ^^
Anyway, a beautiful setup for what must surely be a confrontation soon. Lovely images dear and a beautiful chapter as always.
That confrontation with that traitorous Mercer does approach with them on his trail. I am delighted you found it a beautiful chapter, my friend
I've only been through the whole Thieves Guild quest only once, but it is nonetheless one of my favorites, due to the intrigue and challenge the quests bring to the table. I really hope they put the smack down on Mercer when and if they find him, since he was always once of my least favorite npcs. ;-)
Have only been through the thieves quests once as well, this is my second play-through of the quests capturing the shots for this tale, I agree that they are some of the more interesting quests for the approach to completing them and those little mysteries. I think Mercer will learn why he should not have harmed one of the group, he is an unlikable sort for sure
Mercer better move quickly as I believe swift paws will be gaining on him soon!
Fantastic work my friend! I can't wait for the next chapter!!!
He will have great difficulty shaking them from his trail, that one is not as swift as the paws that follow
Happy you enjoyed it, Aok, glad you look forward to the next ^^
I am thrilled to admire your works again and again.
Nice building up of tension - the silence in the Flagon, the weapons near blades, the sense that something big was about to happen. People do pick up on these things - the saying "tension so thick you could cut it with a knife" exists for a reason.
Excellent potrayal of Bryn's anger, doubt, and then confusion and redirected anger at Mercer. Poor Bryn, no one likes to be lied to by someone you trusted. Perhaps not a friend but a fellow guild member perhaps you looked up to. Now the guild is in turmoil as their faith is overturned and the guild takes yet another dive into the bottom as they continue to fall apart. Will Edrelle be willing to help restore the Guild I wonder, and all that it implies if she does? That is one thing I have yet to figure out in her dealings with the Guild.
Great chapter with nice emotional writing and tension, enjoyed the images as well
Glad that tension was clearly reflected in the words, those little details one sense in that kind of situation, hard for one not to notice - was tempted to use a variation of that saying in the tale when I was writing that part.
Great to hear I portrayed Bryn's mix of feelings well, changed much of that usual dialogue to bring them out more. It is indeed a bitter pill for him to swallow learning that one he had trusted for so long had been lying through his teeth, endangering fellow thieves which he clearly views as nearly like family. Mercer's betrayal does leave the guild in quite the dire state for sure. I don't think Edrelle is quite clear on what to do about the guild yet, her thoughts do turn to that from time to time, remains to be seen what she will decide.
I am very glad you enjoyed my writing and the images, Jonathan, really appreciate your kind words
