Very interesting chapter. I was suprised as heck when Grim unleashed fire at that vamp; I had no idea he knew magic! Especially fire magic. Grim, it seems, has lots of layers and skills to draw upon in battle.

Glad Wolfgar got out, I was horrified when he got flung across the room thinking he was going to be injured! And I'm sure the little beastie that knows no fear will drag Erik to the rescue!

Liking your take on this quest; Molag Bal is always a fun one for me as (you know) I love a good baddie and they don't get much more despicable than Bal!

Off to read the next chapter...

Thanks Jess for the feedback! In general Grim only knows a little nature magic. Marissa (wife to his adopted father) is a priestess of Mara and she taught him some basic healing magic. The Black Wolf Company are close with Arkay so they also tend to know some general undead smite magic. From his shamans he has picked up some elemental magic - bark/stone skin, and fire, frost, and lighting. However as a blood descendant of the Winter Wolf frost comes easier and fire actually hurts him almost as bad as the victim as far as pain. He is susceptible to flame magic as it is somewhat anthem to his nature, although he is okay with natural fires for the most part - he still has mortal blood after all and needs some warmth. But in general he tends to be more physical. Still when you fight undead for a living having some fire magic tends to be very useful

Well another adrenalin fuelled chapter, Nice to see little Wolfgar made it out after a bit of vampire kicking. Hopefully Wolfgar can bring the rest of the BlackWolf company to aid Grim in time before he either submits or is consumed by the evil minions of Molag Bal.
Once again you left us with a cliffhanger I look forward to the next chapter.

    Great work wolf m8

Lol thanks! The problem with flash backs in time is we know how things will turn out so not the easiest thing to have suspense ... but hopefully the story is still entertaining

Great continuation, so wonderfully written, such intense and filled suspense chapter with amazing, equally intense and atmospheric shots! I admire Grim's strength and self will, even in such state when he was cut out from almost all his powers, not only he did win over that vampire, but he managed to set Wolfgar free as well. Grim has such loyal and loving heart, saving his little wolf friend, because I am almost positive that those vampires would kill Wolfgar just for laugh and for the sake of hurting Grim even more...
I really fear for Grim, Molag Bal is very dangerous Dedra and what worse, though he enjoys seeing killing and bloodshed, what delights him even more is to see his victim alive, but condemned to eternal suffering either by guilt or shame, since one of Molag Bal favorite pastimes is to push good people to their limits and enjoy their fall to corruption and darkness. Molag loves to taint all that good and pure, seeing heartbreak and suffering, and Grim is very courageous to literally spit on him in a gesture of defiance.
By the way, seeing almost naked Grim surrounded by three female vampires (great capture, by the way, perfectly depicting all emotions that he and his tormentors are feeling) gave me some disturbing thoughts, because Molag Bal is not only a manifestation of corruption but also a notorious pervert and rapist as well, so if it was his desire, those female vampires could... well, take advantage of Grim's almost helpless state but as I understood it won't come to that, though judging from their touches and words those female vampires would not mind such command. I wonder what Molag Bal has in mind for Grim instead... but I think it is nothing good certainly, since it is tied with Molag struggle for power with Hircine.
I hope that Erik will be there soon, along with Wolfgar, because as dangerous as Molag Bal is, he can't manifest in Skyrim directly and that haunted house only serves as conduit to some of his power because of the altar and countless sacrifices in Molag Bal's name. Still strong willed person can resist his mental influence and more tangible threat will be those three mistwalkers, so if Erik will gather all her strength, he might succeed and I so hope for that! I am waiting for continuation with great deal of anticipation!

:-) Great feedback and comment, thank you Nataly! Those vampires would have surely given Wolfgar to their Death Hounds to play with and Grim suspected it was him they wanted - which means they would either kill Wolfgar outright or use him as leverage against him.

If they had managed to capture him and then threatened to torture/kill Wolfgar if he did not agree to become a vampire he would have still denied Molag Bal; for becoming a Vampire would force him to lose Wolfgar in the end anyhow and destroy himself in the process.

However Molag would still win to some degree in the end because doing such a thing would probably crush all of Grims spirit, if it didn't kill him outright, and thus he would have his revenge in the end.

Yet I am a firm believer that sometimes you have to make that ultimate sacrifice, as your Sam pointed out to Dannee, as the end result would cause so much more harm then good. Consider if Dannee became the tool of Hermause after just one use of Bend Will - the evil she would do in the world and how many innocents she would kill and torment ... all to save the life of Aurora? I suspect Aurora would not want that and if Dannee did it then it would be more to save her own conscience. I think that is what Sam meant in sacrifice.

Same for Grim, in my mind, if he became evil and had not only his wolf powers (uncontrolled and full of blood lust) combined with Molag Bals powers, and under the power of Molag ... the evil he would do in the world would be beyond compare. He could not justify that to save Wolfgar. Yet knowing he was indirectly the cause of the loss of Wolfgar would probably drive him to such despair he might take his own life or become useless. To dark for me though - such tales are best left to Jessb81 and Kayol Although I will add that even if I did write such a thing that Wolfgars soul would travel to the Twilight Forest, home of Fenrir, and be waiting there for Grim whenever Grim passed on.

Sorry got a bit off topic You are correct about the other aspect of Molag Bal and if I didn't have to worry about the public forum I might have explored that aspect more - certainly there are mods and tools that I could use ... and certainly Molag has plans to use such things to try and break Grim after the ceremony ... but hopefully Erik and Wolfgar will find a way to rescue him before then :-)

Lastly astute comment on Molag and his power. The question comes to mind why didn't Hircine and/or Fenrir warn Grim or help him? Besides the obvious plot reasons, it was a couple of things. Like you said most Daedra need to be summoned to appear in the real world. Fenrir, who is more tied to the real world, can be summoned much easier by his followers and, if really needed, he can communicate mentally from his home domain, directly to his followers. Hircine really needs to be summoned.

Next most "good" greater powers prefer people help themselves first. You keep bailing out mortals and they become dependent and weak.

Then there is the issue that they simply did not know Molag Bals plans. Neither Hircine nor Fenrir make it their full time job to follow Grim around. They may "look" in on him from time to time but even then they would not have a reason to notice something, and I am sure Molag Bal took steps to hide his plans.

Once Grim was trapped it was then to late - he is in Molags domain now, as well as being away from nature and Fenrir. However, perhaps, one of them can reach Wolfgar ...
