I am honest, until now I have not found the peace to read through this story. But only by looking at these images one can already see (and almost feel) the pain he had to go through.
One reason I like this medium so much is that the pictures also help with the story and can also just be nice to look at. I know not everyone reads English around here either. I am trying to use images a bit more although my story of Erik will be another text heavy one. Wolfgars story, however, should be more image focused
It took a time before i understood everything, but this part of the story touched me deeply!
Brilliant written and the psychological Study at the end of the story is very interesting.
It`s good to know that Grim is at the point to accept himself and is able now to control the beast.
I´m a bit afraid of the two wolfes which watched Grim and Wolfgar. They are Hircines scouts i think, and i hope they will not be able to change Grims mind!
I´m sure Fenrir and Hircine have not the same reason for watching him.
Hircine would prefer Grim should more be a beast, and Fenrir...hmm..he is younger but a bit wiser than Hircine i think, cause he gave his animal instinct, but not the addiction to Blood. Is it right, or is there a mistake in my thoughts?
Fenrir, on the other hand, is also part of Kynareth, and hence shows the softer side of nature - the mother protecting her young or the way some animals will "adopt" other animals or form friendships. How groups of animals can work together as a team (dolphins, wolves, monkeys) and show forms of emotion.
Fenrir is a nature spirit so he has a deep understanding of life and death and the cycle of existence. I think this gives him more wisdom and understanding then Hircine. Fenrir is also strongly tied to the mortal plane, which is where he was created, and hence understands mortal life better than Hircine. But Hircine has his own wisdom as well and tends to be more powerful then Fenrir.
Both, however, lean more towards the amoral side of things - Fenrir because he is part of nature and nature is indifferent to morals, nature just *is*. Hircine is non-human and hence can't really understand or appreciate the concept as well. I think he, and other Princes do have a moral code but it is not a human one and hence the gap in understanding.
Anyhow Fenrir has intellect and understands blind rage and lust is a form of weakness to be avoided. You are a far better hunter when you can control your emotions.
Lastly Fenrir also understands their is strength in numbers, in society, in a pack. Hence the "every person out for themselves" approach may not be the best path to survival. He is a pack creature after all
Frist I will start with the Grim is a hero, he does very much act with honor, he works hard to be noble, tenacious, relentless and he works very hard to stand up for the underdog, I think that is why he is such a strong man and wolf, he does not allow that wolf to take over but keeps that human part always in his mind, and it has been wonderful to watch him grow to come to understand that maybe being the Dragon born will not be so bad that with it comes honor also and the ability to help the ones who need it, at this time in a land so separated by War, Dragons, Thalmor.
I was very impressed by how he overcome the fear and worked though the memories to do the job he set out to do, he did not make the ones who had hurt him suffer as they did him, he made their end swift. It takes a strong inner being to not want to retaliate against those how have harmed us in the past.
I did so enjoy the telling of this story with the memories mixed though with moving though the fort, each memories as it comes giving him further insight in to who he truly is, the part where he remembered his first transformation was amazing, and so well told. I am a true believer in the fact that what does not kill us makes us stronger and that when something knocks up on our ass we stand back up and dust it off and move forward. As Ambrosia would say, tomorrow is a new day and I will meet it standing whatever comes I will do my best to be prepared and I feel that from Grim, that today is over, tomorrow I start fresh a new day, a new lesson to be learned.
I look forward to his next tales and hope in time to learn more of what Fenrir and Hircine each want from Grim as in all families the elder have expectations.
Amazing shots and as Jess said I know how much work you put in to these shots and the time it took to make this such a wonderful exciting tale.. I await your next work.
Thanks for your insight and feedback. I will tell you that after I left Northwatch with Grim we encountered a random band of Thalmor hiking on the road. Now Grim always confronts them and when they ask if he has something to say about worshiping Talos he always does and if they attack he does as well.
Well this group refused to be goaded and ignored him (not sure if this was a bug in the game based on immersive patrols mod or if they were a mod based patrol without dialogue versus one of Bethsedas version ... something to look at later ... regardless I could not get the usual dialogue window to show up - they just kept telling me to move along with no chance to talk). Normally I would have attacked anyhow and killed them.
However since they left Grim alone he let that p[articular band go as he had had enough killing for the day. That does NOT mean he will let every band go - they are Thalmor and the Thalmor have only one purpose - to enslave and kill all humans. That is what it means to be a Thalmor. Thalmor is NOT a race, I think some folks are confuse don this. Hating Thalmor does not mean hating the Mer (Altmer).
The only people who are Thalmor are those who believe in the idealogies of the Thalmor, which is to kill and/or enslave all humans. They are simply not nice people to humans. There are no nice Thalmor, it is a complete contradiction in lore of what the Thalmor are.
However Grim had enough killing that day and more understanding of his hatred of the Thalmor, which is now more rational and logical then emotion based.
Thanks to Google translate I could, once again understand your wonderful stories
I think the next few stories with Grim I am going to be more image focused with a few words for each image. Now that he is more self-aware he is going to explore the world around him and gain some experience. Maybe get that Horn for the Greybeards as well
The whole series has been punctuated with stunning images and I know from experience how much effort and time you've put into this set and I'm deeply thankful and impressed! Thankful that you've shared this and impressed with your writing. I especially lived the little nod to Fenrir and Hircine at the very end; nice!
I'd say where self- actualisation is concerned, grim is well on his way!
I glad you liked the two wolves, I hope to have them show up from time to time in more tales as I go along.
Thalmor flavored!
And it was interesting to see Grim accepting his shadow, as you explained.
It was awesomely written scene when Grim has called to his father, Fenrir to gain power and make himself free... and like in case of many werewolves his first transformation was traumatic, not only because of bloodshed he caused which horrified his human part of nature but also because of horrific circumstances in which he first turned. Thalmor sure deserved what they get from Grim in both past and present.
And I am so agree that to free yourself, you must fully accept who you are and make peace with the past and Grim did just that, now with his memories regained he will have full control over his darker side, his shadow and finally he will live the life he chooses, not the life his grandfather or father want him to live... I suspect that two wolves who watched him by afar were Fenrir and Hircine? Hircine seems to even to respect and applaud Grim's self will, if I understood it correctly.
Wonderful work you did, thank you very much for sharing it!
Of course he won't have free sailing from this point forward, he still has many trials and journeys ahead, but now he has the solid foundation he needs to build his life upon.
Also you are correct that was Fenrir and Hircine who were watching him the whole time. They could not help, even though it pained both of them to only watch, as this had to be done completely by Grim. If they had helped then Grim would always have self-doubt that he lacked the strength to do it on his own. Fenrir is very proud of his son and Hircine ... well the Old Wolf is also very proud. His laugh had to do with his thoughts about his "gift" being the "shadow" and his viewpoints on it ... yet he also agrees with Grim that mastering oneself is the sign of a true hunter.
For the future I have plans for Grim to track down his mother, confrontations and traps set by other Daedra Princes, and I am hoping to also tell a story from Wolfgars view point called "Wolfgar's Tale" :-)
Thanx again for this impressive and fantastic Story from you. Your Image to this Story are also brilliant again.
