Once I finish my Skyrim rebuild back to finishing this story set as well or Hircine will be on my ass as well.
With all the might and power he has within him he's "defeated" by his own temper and impulsive nature instead of thinking things through before acting.Who better then Hircine himself to subtely bring him that message,...
It seemed to me that Hircine found some more info then the info he shared with Grim. But that is purely a feeling I got whilst reading it,..
One could say we often defeat ourselves - people are often their own worst enemy.
Hircine does have a lead but if he isn't telling Grim he won't be telling you
Vampires seem to be a continuing theme so far. First with Erik now with Hirsine not caring for the vampires he was tracking or their threats.
thankfully despite loosing his divinity, some o Grim abilities remained, like his ties with wolves and his night vision along with incredibly strong bond he shares with Wolfgar.
Given Grim's situation it probably not surprising that Hircine decided to drop by and visit his grandson. His speech about vampires made me chuckle, especially the end of it about the remains of undead... Looks like Hircine would take none threats from his brother Molag or let them go unpunished. Daedric family relations is truly dark and very complicated thing. Sad thing that identity of the one who put Grim in trap remains unknown and looks like Grim won't get much help from Hircine, since he refuses to 'coddle' him. Sad thing that he reacts so harsh at even his grandson's mistake, but Hircine was always harsh with his subjects, given his 'survival of the fittest' motto.
Hopefully maybe Kyne or someone else might provide help and advice that Grim might use... and hopefully he will be reunited with Erik soon!
I would look forward for continuation and thank you for sharing your wonderful work!
Hircine is taking the survival of the fittest idea here although more on the state of divinity then Grim himself. In other words he cares for Grim but Grim has to prove he is worth his position as Guardian and the powers that come with them. But Hircine will always consider Grim his kin.
I am thinking the next chapter will touch upon Erik as Grim heads to the Nightingale Hall to visit with Karliah and Nocturnal.
Wonderful work as always. Hoping Grim can regain his power.
LOVE the last shot!
Doing light stuff right now as that is where my mood is at. I do have the story worked out to its conclusion though - just a matter of getting the chapters out.
I see that Grim still does not react to Hircine quite as the prince of the hunt would want him to, him mocking Grim a little for it. It is worrying that vampires are hunting Grim so actively, luckily that particular group of them had the misfortune of annoying Hircine and paid for it. I thought Grim would get into an argument with Hircine as he has before but it seems he knew the wisdom of holding back his anger in that situation. It was amusing that Wolfgar teased him with a laugh, drawing that gaze from Grim. It is nice that Hircine admitted his own failings as well, not putting it all on Grim, his enemy is sure being subtle to for his plans escape his notice. I am quite intrigued about what scheme is afoot, a wonderful chapter, Jonathan
Grim did debate bringing up that fight with Sheogorath where Hircine and his beast lost because of their temper. But while appropriate for once Grim had a bit more common sense. Besides in this case Grim knew Hircine was right - he did screw up and had only himself to blame. Although granted he was taunted and tricked into reacting but he still should have taken more time to prepare and study the situation versus just raging out into a fight not really prepared.
Glad you enjoyed the story
It is good to know that Hircine is still there but Grim has to figure this one out on his own.
Hircine is keen on the tough love approach I think lol. So yes Grim is mostly on his own.
It seems to me that you have a little revised your interpretation of Hircine, closing a bit more to the lore. The daedra of hunting, lose his human form, to return to being animal and then be enigmatic and disturbing together. Kyne the divine Sky and Hircine, Witches deities (their shadow is on the soundtrack), and god of ddark forests are facing, they contend for the possession of the soul of Grimm. Amid stir some vampires, perhaps originally creatures of Hircine but now the immortal sickles of Molag Bal.
Fenrir, patriarchal figure, moves away, he remained confined into another world finally free from the "captivity", and Grimm reamin alone to look at the night sky and the two halves of the Lorkhan's heart, symbol of a split-seeming irreconcilable, between subject and object, beaing and existence, dreamer and dream.
Grimm in Skyrim, for the first time perhaps it is alone, except for his companion. The father with his love and his wisdom, is no more. No longer responds to the question: "What should I do?". Grimm will have for the first time to do alone. This means to grow and become painfully adult.
Your insight into Hircine is much appreciated. I think I like Hircine a bit more in his wolf form lately - whether there is a reason for that in my unconscious I am not sure. I do like him a bit more on the animalistic side. That being said I still see him caring for his pack - his children as he calls the werebeasts. As much as any anthropomorphic divine entity can (I know I totally destroy the concept of divinity) he does have a certain fondness for Grim, Wolfgar, Fenrir, and Wolfgar. His family in a way. Still like nature he isn't one to coddle the weak - survive or not nature cares little in that regard. Just don't expect me to make him as cold and harsh as your Hircine since I am just a big softy as you know ... or should know by now.
I think you are right on track that many want Grim's soul, even Hircine has his own private reasons and they are not altruistic ones ... yet not evil either.
I very much like ending on the comment as it is true. Father is gone, grandfather is distant, enigmatic, and somewhat removed and Grandmother is more of a memory than anything else although I expect the wind to come to his aid now and then.
But no one is answering his questions and his is without guidance for once. Never thought about that but its true - in all his stories he had guidance, primarily from Hircine or Fenrir. Hmm ... I wonder what that means about my own personality and issues with a father figure :p
Anyhow I think its time Grim find his own way. But one of the true gifts of life is love and companionship - even if only from an animal. Grim, at least, will have Erik, Wolfgar, and his friends.
