I really enjoyed how you played Mani there, her little quirks and all. The interaction with stubborn Wolf was just priceless. Gave me bit of a good laugh, never disobey doctor's order. Was a great chapter

Thanks! Was wondering how you would feel about my portrayal of Mani. Obviously this is in an alternative universe but I still try to stick to what I understand of her personality and concept roughly translated to fit my story.

Hahahha! I really liked this chapter. I loved the part where Wolf instantly agreed to the challenge and then regretted it the moment he was on his feet. Followed by the "You were right" part... It was very amusing! Amazing writing and really good screenshots Jon!

Many thanks - now and then I try to put a little humor into things as I tend to like light adventure writing, aka Dragonlance stuff.

Pretty funny chapter I thought with Wolf not following doctors orders and then collapsing when challenged to see how far he could make it. Really like the description of Mani and the lecture she gave to the stubborn patient. Look forward to seeing what new mission he needs to be involved in next.

Thanks very much Izzy - enjoying doing something new that doesn't have any constraints on it. My mom is getting old and she keeps saying she wants to read one of my books before she leaves. But the problem with Grim is he is so tied to the lore and Skyrim it wouldn't make much sense to her. So that was one of the reasons (out of many) I really wanted to start a character that anyone could just pick up and follow.

Very beautifully written new and awesome chapter! Great shots too, very atmospheric and very cool close up pictures of heroes.
I do always enjoy peeking into heroes minds, learning about their wishes, motives, thoughts and characters and in this chapter there lots of awesome insight about both Mani and Wolf characters. Mani reminded me of Tolkien Elves somehow... they are such wise race, old and experienced but with some sort of melancholic feeling about them. Also there is equality between men and women in elven culture, so it was very fascinating to see how strong willed Mani is and how she defends her opinion... while Wolf demonstrated a certain alpha male attitude while trying to appear strong... Thankfully his wish to be strong did not end badly so he will recover. also it was very heartwarming to see such strong connection between wolf and Drifta... and Mani sure was right telling him to think about Drifta if he doesn't care about himself, for hat will happen with her if wolf is gone?
Very interesting story and wonderful reading! Thank you for sharing your awesome work!

Arrgg... I had a long reply and I hit a key and shut the browser window, ugg!

Anyhow thank you very much for the wonderful comment. Mani is very strong willed and independent, as well as stubborn and sees Wolf as somewhat of a dirty animal ... but attractive in a brutish short of way. She is also slightly melancholic because she might never be able to return to her home. Each month the gateways get harder to use. Even if she did return her family might reject her ... or punish her. Or they might accept her with open arms but with a lot of "told you so" in their eyes and that would annoy her to no end. Course she doesn't mind telling Wolf "I told you so" lol.

Wolf ... well he had no childhood to speak off being unconscious and his growth accelerated so he reached 17 years roughly in months. He then had 3 years under control of the scientists (as you saw in the lore). At best, during that time, he was like a very well trained attack dog or military dog. He didn't think much - just reacted to his training and followed commands to the letter. Always eager to please as that was how he was designed. Yet he has a very highly evolved brain that was absorbing data and information constantly. Somewhere deep down, during his sleep, a small sense of self formed. It called itself WOLF and knew it existed since it understood the concept of "I: but it never really reached consciousness - perhaps in self-defense somehow knowing the scientist would try to stamp it out if they knew.

Then he got a soul, a very special soul, and ... well all hell broke loose. But that will be a story for later on.

Anyhow after that he existed for some number of years in his own time before some other things happened ... and eventually he went back in time to where we are now with the story. So I have lots of past things to fill in as I write. But during that time he became a real person and his emotions exploded almost ... as if they had been bottled up.

He is also very stubborn and because of his past resents any form of control so Mani trying to control him sets off his temper a lot. Course she doesn't know why he reacts so badly to it. He is also a warrior and so fierce and intense. A bit brutal and violent at times again because of his past.

He loves Drifta to pieces though. He has always felt alone and isolated, completely lost, and Drifta has really helped him to find himself, to feel comfortable, and bring out some of his better qualities simply because he loves her.

Probably enough for now as don't want to spoil.

Glad you like the stories and think you may enjoy chapter two a lot since you like to see emotions and personalities at play between characters.

I wanted to have the time to read your chapters without ruffle. So today I read the them both.
You really took me into the story. Wolf's and Mani's struggles, especially her charcterization are written very deep-hearted.
And well, sometimes hard men need soft counterparts to show them what's best. I liked how you got Mani out of a mental dilemma (for once?). We'll see.
Your images match perfectly although I've to admit my focus lied on your words in both chapters.

Thank you Ems! Well Wolf has two very strong women in his life - Mani and Drifta. My goal is to, hopefully, make them more complex then just that basic personality type though. There is no getting around the fact that Wolf will share many of Grim's traits and view points though - as Grim was based off the main character for the book idea I have. Wolf is just a further refinement of that. The goal of these stories is twofold: to share with my Mom who has been asking me to share some of my writing - and Grim is to tied to Skyrim to make any sense to her; and to get practice creating a world from scratch - meaning no ties to Skyrim/TES lore or world.

I read the same way which I sometimes feel guilty about. There are three authors here I read all the time and love their work. I know they put hours into their screenshots but in the end it is the words I focus on and barely notice the images except usually the main, the opening one, and the last one. I do try to remember to go back after reading and scroll through ... but in general I find a good written story is all you need. It is one reason I no longer do the super-complex scenes that used to take me hours and hours to create. Instead I create basic simple shots more as props in a play - just an image to provide a little added detail to the story. That way I don't have to write as much descriptive text and it also makes it easy to see what the characters look like. That and can set the tone a little.

In the end, though, the main reason I keep my shots more simple these days is that I do not want to restrict my writing to what can be done with the game itself as far as making images (both from a time and skill viewpoint). I now write my story before doing any images. I then do what I can to take some images that match the story as best as possible. Failing that I just do some portraits and landscapes *grin*.

Thanks again and glad you enjoyed them!

*sigh*, sometimes I wish my mother had shown more interests in the things I did/do. Well, and sometimes I was glad she didn't/does not.
Nowadays her main interest lies in reading the obituaries in the news paper. >.<

That seems to be the habit of many older folks. I suspect you have to have friends and family to do that though so being the introvert I am I don't have to worry about that curse.

I think my Mom just knows I enjoy writing and wants to share some of that with me before she goes (she is 80 this fall). Knowing me I told her the best she could hope for is maybe a few chapters from here. Will probably create a little PDF or printed copy of whatever stories I have posted here on Nexus for her birthday when it comes.

And thanks for the bit of sharing as well

I don't know if I mentioned that before (probably should have when you introduced the agents in one of your sets) that including a representative of the alfa-folk in your tales was a great move, since they really existed in the minds of the people and, unlike fairies and other ethereal beings, weren't considered just spirits. It's fantastic that you give them substance through Mani in your tale. Also, her background was so interesting to read! And her fascination with Wolf - completely understandable
The passage about the old ways fading was lovely - a bit in the spirit of Mr. Tolkien, if you ask me (which you don't ). I really like this sort of melancholic vibe - and there is no one better than the elf to represent it.
I really like the small glimpses of Wolf and Drifta's relationship, that kinship of mind they have.
Also, from the dialogues (especially the one when Wolf woke up after fainting) , I can tell that you have fun with this new idea of yours. It's a bit like these heroic fantasy series, but with way more background research - and a way better style, to be honest (Dragonlance, for example - I've loved it as a kid, but it was soooooo bad! ).

I often wish I could go back in time to really know what it was like. How accurate is our history really? What was it like to live in a time where you had so many mysteries and so little science? Where you truly believed in the myths and legends? What must that have been like?

Glad you like Mani. I wanted to include a non-human primarily because I wanted to push home the idea that this is a fantasy and not a historical novel. The gods, monsters, magic, all that really existed.

Aye the melancholy of Tolkien always struck home for me. I actually have many plans for the concept of the old ways fading, of a new religion taking over, and finally a progression towards science ... but ... much as I would like to say more I can't. But that idea will be a theme behind the book.

Honestly I would be thrilled if someone thought my writing was even half as good as Dragonlance stories (which I also enjoyed growing up although they are not among my favorites - they are more read, enjoy, donate to the library kind of books. My true favorites I keep and often re-read again and again).

Yet I make no pretense about my style or what I like - I love fantasy, magic, high adventure mixed with some humor. Pure escapism. I like bigger than life characters with faults and conflicts but I tend to use a lighter touch. Most of my favorite books and authors fall under those ideas - Besides my favorite humorist authors Pratchett and Adams, I really enjoy Stephen Brust, Paul Kidd, David Webber, Eddings, Fritz Leiber, Michael Sullivan (one of the most recent authors and also a current favorite as his style is exactly my favorite type - especially in the Riyria Revelation series), Roger Zelazny, Louise Cooper, Patrick Rothfuss, Alan Dean Foster, Ursula K. Le Guin, oh and so many many more. I read the Hobbit in second grade and moved right on to the Lord of the Rings and been reading avidly almost ever since. Only in the last 5 years has my reading gone way down - mainly as got involved with more interactive things like gaming with mods and graphics and writing my own stories. But I still read on a regular basis just not as often.

Ooops totally side-tracked again! Point being yes I do have fun with it

Thanks Shelley! I am having a lot of fun working on this complex story. I suspect it will take some time to develop everything as I can't use Skyrim (and all its quests, characters, history, and lore) to explain things to people. Will see how it goes. I am enjoying working on these relationships and the tension between Mani and Wolf.

Appreciate the feedback as I know you are busy - turning into the new mod Queen

Very nice to read this,.. it caught me straigh away,... The way Mani speaks to herself and her thoughts about her stay here, the stubborn Wolf, acting stupidly macho, great pieces in this story that makes it very entertaining to read and where these two come alive in your story,..
I very much enjoyed reading this chapter and I'll be on the lookout for more (should not be to hard though,.. )

Thank you Erwin. Character monologue is one of the easiest ways to get out information on a character when you don't have the luxury of spreading it out slowly over a book. I do plan on doing some of it through dialogue and interaction as well. Wolf may have a little internal dialogue to say a bit more about his life next chapter, although some of his past will remain a secret. But glad you felt they came alive in the story as that is what I am trying to do.
