Oh there is masterful work here. I see I need to review some chapters!
Nice way to deal with the vampire issue. I was wondering as many vampires can live among humans just fine. Especially the clan of them in Cyrodiil who pretty much pass as human. But Kynthis is more one to stand out in a crowd. Plus as you explained going below during the day is going to be suspicious all things considered. Nice way of describing the opening trip to the island as well - set the atmosphere and mood I think. Music added a nice dramatic touch.
I liked telling the view point of the scene from the captain as well. Good way to build up the drama as the ship arrives and how people are reacting and preparing. Garm is ever useful as the communicator and enjoyed the little game with Syn.
Best yet was that you did decide to include Syn's little stint. I mean it is reasonable that such would happen. The Telvanni are known for having ego's as big as their mana pools after all. Enjoyed the father and daughter reunion as well.
So a very tense time there on the docks as the face down with the councilor occurred. Well thought out and detailed as all the angles were considered and covered. Lots of past history came out in this story and a good way to bring up some of her past stories in a way.
Enjoyed the story - more so because I waited till I had to read it without being in a rush and I could focus.
Well; yeah - as far as I understand it those strains of vampirism are quite different; one could of course argue that the Vampire that first infected and turned Kyn was of the Cyrodiilic Origins which might allow her to blend in more when fully fed; but I'd say since she is a Daughter now that doesn't make much difference as I seem the more as "blood matron's" of their own lines of vampirism than part of a particular one .. as they come directly from Molag and not through other Vampires .. whatever might be the case I couldn't see her blend in enough to not eventually draw attention to herself.
Glad you did enjoy the Music and the view points of the captain on both Kyn going below deck aswell as how he read the reactions and interactions of the people around him. Glad you did enjoy the bit with Syn and Neloth. I tend to agree that their ego's can be quite big; even though I think at least Neloth is able to see beyond that if necessary to keep his "comfortable situation" going to keep his focus on his experiments and studies.
Yeah; I wanted to include a few bits and pieces of what happend earlier in her Story to make it easier to follow what happens on solstheim without the need to track back completely ..
Thank you again; glad you did!
An interesting choice to start off by not having Kynthia mess with anyone's mind on the ship during the voyage. Was nice to see the captains thoughts as a veteran of the sea, and how it was pretty obvious to himself and the crew what she was. Interesting part about the sea and the favorable weather, and whether or not Synnassa had anything to do with it. Maybe, also the forces on Solstheim could be playing a role also.
Quite the description of the encounter between the Redoran Guard and Kynthia's group. I did read previous comments already so it made me remember the time when Kynthia messed with Balgruuf and that did not turn out well for her at all, and her more tempered approach this time could be experience talking. It did make sense though to not try and use vampiric abilities here, as the colony is too large and the Dunmer are magically gifted even if not part of House Telvanni and someone would have noticed it.
Speaking of which, when did Neloth become the voice of reason in the world?! Interesting that Synnassa lost her mind with threats and daddy was nearby to save the day. I do wonder if there was another motive behind that, and they are both sipping canis root tea having a laugh. Probably not, for all of Neloth's arrogance and borderline madness, he of all people would know that the island belongs to House Redoran, and only having three wizards in total there does not an army make. He also never showed any sort of hatred for them, he only wants to experiment.
The old mentor returning, and really saving the day as they were not being let off of that ship otherwise. Love how the old man disarmed the entire guard on his own, and used that as further reason to allow Kynthia to come in, as it showed what she would be capable of if she really wanted to cause trouble. Her explanation that cultists from there had tried to kill her may have put the choice to let her in over the top.
Well, hopefully the continuation is not months away but this one was worth the wait, very well done indeed
Well; with Synnassa it is hard to tell; maybe even both - Solstheim itself aswell as Synnassa fiddling with the Weathers; or just good luck - even if the Captain and his Experience doubts that. Glad you did enjoy the insight from the Captains viewpoint aswell as the entrance and interaction between the Redoran Guard and the Group trying to enter the City.
I tend to agree; most likely the Redoran Guard would have immediately noticed if she would have tried to temper with the Mind of their Second Councilor. If not immediately in the process most likely due to the changed tone of voice afterwards. But I think she wasn't considering it even if she would have had the guy all alone; far away from the Rest of Raven Rock asI like to think that she despises those Vampiric Powers (still?) and would like to avoid using them unless absolutely no other option is available or any available ones are far worse (like with the Dawnguard Man in Morthal - there her choices where kill or charm).
Well; usually he might not be the most reasonable person but I think that he is fully aware that he not only needs the good will of raven rock to get supplies for his own settlement now and then aswell as a "peaceful" coexistence to conduct his research. While I think he could give them quite a challenge to overcome eventually he wouldn't stand a chance - as I think his apprentice can't just yet be called ready for a conflict based upon the Ash Guardian Messup Besides he does know his Daughter best and does know that she still; in her mind; is in a setting of times past with Telvanni Power at its peak. So her actions are not quite rooted in reality; I'd assume that is why he intervended there. But with two of those Telvanni Wizards who knows - maybe it was all an elaborate experiment ..
Glad you did like the way Verdyn interacted with them; even though I assume he was partially lucky with his Disarm of the Guard - for one they where focused on what was going on before them; so he had the surprise effect on his side; twice; as I assume for the guards he was a "unusually fit but still old man" and not much more.. another politician. If they had turned on him it might have gotten ugly pretty quick; so it was a gamble on his part - relying on their Training and sense of duty overtaking their sense of Pride to not retaliate immediately without orders. In the End I think his words and actions had more influence than the Cultists (even verified with the Letter) as only through his Actions and words was the Councilor even willing to hear out Kyn.
I do hope so aswell; thank you once more!
I think Kynthia acted admirably in this situation. She kept her cool and wits together and that got her in (in the end) . I do like the person of Neloth, and it's obvious Synassa is a descendant. Both have a wizerds temper and that feel on not being quite connected to the earth. Always pressing matters somewhere else,..
I am very curious where her adventures will lead her and how she will go about all the "bumps" that will undoutibly will be thrown in her way,..
Very nice read Alex,...
Well; as I already replied below I think Kyn does understand that her former self (that dealt with Balgruuf rather early in her travels and offended him more than a bit) would have caused far more trouble than good in such a situation; and being mindlinked with both Garm and Arissa certainly helped with keeping that in Mind - still very happy you did like the way she approached the situation.
It was wise of Kynthia to scout out the area and map it out with her very sharp senses, sound a very useful ability in case of trouble, knowing exactly how to get out of a bad situation. I like how you wrote about what she sensed as well. It is not surprise that Synnassa turned Garm trying to reach into her mind as a game, she is quite the playful one, always finding new ways to entertain herself. It is good that Kynthia can tap into Arissa's experience in dealing with persons of importance, it is quite the teamwork and it shows the trust they have for each other.
That Kynthia would tell Garm to share with Arissa some of her most painful memories of the past, those moments which left her with great scars shows how close they have become as well, it is nice that they do not keep secrets from each other. It is fortunate that Veryn was the councilor's advisor considering his past as Kynthia's mentor with how much of an effort he made to make the Councillor see that she was no danger to Raven Rock. I also like how he saw a change in her from how she was in the past, with the need for revenge no longer consuming her, It sounds like she has some mysteries to uncover and dangerous foes to face ahead. A wonderfully written chapter, Anataron, I very much enjoyed it
Indeed it was a wise move; but if it was intentional or rather subconsciously due to her experiences is hard to tell. Glad you did enjoy the glimpses into what she was sensing aswell as the way Synnassa turned the mindlink with Garm into a game of cat and mouse for her entertainment. Glad you also liked the way they worked together to give Kyn the calmness and wording needed to deal with persons of Importance - as it is on her own it might have ended more like the encounter with Balgruuf in Whiterun so long ago; where she bypassed Irileth in a rush and offended Balgruuf afterwards.
Indeed it was fortunate that Verdyn was there as the Advisor to the Councilor - how that came to be and how those two met previously will most likely surface at one point or another. Without Verdyn I doubt they could have resolved the matter; especially after Syn took the Situation in her hands and tried to force her way through the guards with intimidation. Glad you did like the parts of him seeing the change in Kynthia; I'd assume that he would notice it - after all he was the one that thought her to sense her surroundings and read other beings better - so I figured that he could see it quite quickly.
Indeed she will most likely be involved in whatever is happening in Raven Rock quicker than she would like; but hopefully it will help her find those Cultists and their Leader to deal with them while keeping a low profile in regards to the Thalmor.
Thank you once more for the very kind and well worded feedback; very much appreciated and glad you did enjoy this part of her story; Kamikazekossori
The story is so tensed, the characters so well depicted, as a reader I could feel them all, understand their behaviors and actions, I was worried when the Counselor decided to not let the companions in, that is a story worth reading. Bravo my friend!
Also a very nice touch of you; bringing back some elements of the past and explaining, in action, this special bond between Garm and Kyn, so the reader reconnect with your past chapters.
Glad you do like the way the story is flowing with the characters involved; very much appreciated feedback and glad you did like the parts that do connect to previous entries in kyn's Story!
