Great chapter! With a title shot like this one- you had to know there would be trouble- of the feminine variety. Wow- talk about nerves of steel- this Rose. And the Dead Eyes crew- very interesting bunch. One thing's certain- it's all about the coin! Watch out Rathe!

VERY interesting. So how does she plan to bring the Brotherhood down? With a punch of sewer rats and a trained wh*%#? Is this Sibbi's work? Or is she by chance independently seeking Rathe's demise?
I do like the idea of "Assassin's for hire" as such an organization would logically exist for those not seeking to perform the " Dark Ritual" and simply get business done with some coin.
Can't wait to see how this all comes together!!

Hahaha, a bunch of sewer rats and a prostitute... to take on the DB! Does sound ludicrous doesn't it? Ah, but things aren't always as they seem...

Oh yeah, there'd have to be HEAPS of dudes in Tamriel who are happy to open throats purely for coin (not to venerate some old bag in her coffin! )...

      Many thanks my friend.

I like very much Nick Cave, and the track is well suited to the intermingling you are building with the black clouds that are gathering around Rathe. Very interesting those Dead Eyes. A good reading as always.

Thanks hon. Yes I'm a big fan of NC too; his music is very appropriate for 'my skyrim' world - and one could speculate as to whether the effects of listening to copious NC when I was growing up is what made me write so dark and want to use this type of music in my writing, or if my writing is just dark anyway and this style of music suits it regardless... ah, the philosophy of it all!

I see another shadow now wanders the treacherous world of assassins, the fall of Zuzu seems to have only added to the foes Rathe will have to watch out for, sorts quite determined to hunt him for their own gain. Those top floor ladies do sound quite deadly and skilled, one would not want them to follow their steps. Luckily Rathe's contracts keep him moving from place to place making him a little more elusive for those who would try to find him. I really like how you are weaving all these intrigues around Rathe, seems he will have much trials to face in those many schemes, his skills to be tested. It is amusing to see Maven be dismissed in the way she does anyone that does not serve her ambition by Sibbi, a little taste of her own medicine. An intriguing chapter, Jess

Thanks dear! You're right when you say all these threads are weaving around Rathe; some of his own making, some perhaps undeservedly, but yes indeed, his skills will sorely be tested!! Glad you liked seeing Maven put on the other foot for once (it was fun writing that bit i'll admit)

Liked the music ... never know when you might slip in some country but this one song was rather cool and I liked the beat to it and the rhythm (except I hate trying to remember how to spell the word rhythm as I never get it right). Went well with the story I think - a sense of confidence and energy.

Cool to read about the top flour ladies who worked for ZuZu and seems like they are out for revenge for having had the house burned down. Not that I feel to much (okay none) sympathy for them. Looks like Rathe has really piled up the enemies lately - Sibbi, Maven, Top Floor Ladies, and I bet another dozen could be found laying about. Downside of any line of work that interferes with other people (whether villain or hero really).

Rather enjoyed Sibbi giving Maven some of her own attitude back. He seems to be growing some. Wonder if he will be working with the Dead Eyes or not ... and whether that Lady will be tied in to it. If she was the one sleeping with Sibbi then seems like a good possibility.

Poor Keevra, stuck waiting while Maven stews in her own juices :-) Great story Jess!

Hahaha, there'll be some country music in a chapter coming soon... maybe. At the moment Rathe's tale lends itself much more for dark, indie music so you'll probably be safe This particular piece by Nick Cave just seemed so right to describe miss Top Floor Whore. Glad you liked it.

No, I can't feel much sympathy for these ladies either. Most would've joined the brothel willingly and worked and fought their way to that Top Floor. But there would've been some who would've started down in the Basement and been 'promoted' (like Regan herself) who I must feel sympathy for. They would've been nothing more than abused sex slaves with no other way of life but selling themselves for coin and favour. Shudder. This particular Top Floor Whore... well, i'm not going to go into her background now except to say she knows how to look after herself.

Yep, Rathe's made some enemies (powerful or not) with his actions (and inactions? ) so it may be a case of who gets to him first... but then again, he didn't become the Listener of the DB nor track down and kill both the Albino and Regan without having some sense in his (at times) stubborn head. He won't be as easy to do away with as some might think...

Thanks Jon, your comments always mean so much to me!

Most intriguing plots and schemes galore here.... that lovely/lethal woman (possessing B*LLS of solid hammer-forged carbon-steel to just swagger her oh-so-sweet little @ss into a place like THAT)^^ may be taking orders from someone who has a MAJOR bone to pick with the Broody One....
Sibbi? Maven? Or maybe it's just HER? ^^
Was she actually the same "Jezebel" who was lying in Sibbi's bed while he was being harangued by his "Mommy Dearest" ?? ^^
    Not sure....hmmm....

Looks like some seriously BAD Karma is going to bite Rathe in the arse soon for going totally dark and making "just a few" nasty enemies....These " Dead Eyes" dudes are seriously creepy and don't look like they're the kind to be trifled with....

To take out the Listener of the economically competing Dark Brotherhood might provide more contractual profit$ for the Dead Eyes in the short term, but at what terrible future price?
Do the Dead Eyes honestly think that Lord Sithis and the Night Matron will just let that sort of thing slide??
    I think NOT!!

Regardless of the above, Rathe just might be re-united with his sweet, too-soon-departed Fleur sooner than later if he's either not careful, or just gets plain nihilistically suicidal in the meantime....

    Instantly endorsed.
Many warm thanks and cheers, dear!

Hehehe, you've made me smile again hon! I'm not going to give anything away but I do love the description of the blade wielding lass as Jezebel... nice.

Oh yes, Rathe has made himself quite the target in recent years. Seems like he doesn't realise (care?) what his actions cost in the vengeance stakes. Piss off the Black-Briars? Who cares. Burn down a thriving brothel and see some dangerous folk ousted, bah! What Broody fails to see (or just doesn't give an F about) is that people get rather annoyed by things like that... and want blood and justice.

Yep, the Dead Eyes are pretty rotten dudes. They (unlike the DB) don't have tenets to guide them... unless finding pockets overflowing with glittery coin is considered a tenet. But, then again... Rathe isn't exactly a push over...

      Glad you enjoyed it sweets!

Very impressive, The Dead Eyes, you do come up with the most interesting ways to do things. Love the idea and the Rose, oh damn its back to that back stabbing, wh*%# of a sister of his. Seems even rotting in some shallow grave she still has a way of making Rathe live hell. Makes one wonder, if she had a plan if anything was to ever happen to her. hmmmm will think on that.

Thanks Shelley! The ghost of Rathe's past seems likely to haunt him eternally. It always comes back to Regan. As I mentioned to Anatron, good ol Fantasy Name Generator kindly gave me inspiration for the vile bandit guild running about in the sewers, but I think the name is pretty apt as all of the men (and women) in this gang have soulless... dead... eyes.

Very interesting and intriguing ! Wonderfully written new chapter dear ! Does seem like Rathe is going to be getting some trouble sooner or later as many people want him dead now a day ! This Lady with the Red Rose Tattoo ( xD ) sure is a mysterious one....obviously it speaks alot about the business ZuZu had with the Top Floor girls...makes me wonder now..if this lady isn't the same one that was in Sibbi's bedroom. Does look like as there will me some kind of a 'guild' war between the Dead Eyes and the Dark Brotherhood...a run to being the greatest in all Tamriel..at least as far as assassination goes.

Looking forward to the next chapter !!!

Yes sometimes it doesn't pay to be The Important Person In Your Local Guild... which translates to, I Have a Freaking Huge Target On My Back! Still though, we can't feel TOO sorry for Mr Broody. Not only did he bring a lot of the brewing storm down on himself, he's not exactly innocent of wrong either. Love the idea of a guild war... that's cool and I might even use that phrase in upcoming chapters.

      Thanks Lia dear!
