I also really liked how she senses the aura Despair has been cloaking Windhelm in lately - most likely affecting the entire town in the process. Probably easy to feed on itself what with the civil war and cold adding to everyone's misery even before Despair showed up. Some well done shots worked into the detail too.
I think anyone traveling to Windhelm can quite sense Despair's aura looming over the city like a dark shadow. More perceptive people probably sense it more. The city probably looked like a all-you-can-eat buffet to Despair when she got there, with all the misery caused by the war and the weather itself is more then enough to sustain Despair.
Thank you for your comment and feedback dear
However that is what being a mercenary is - doing a job and doing it well. I worry about that with Grim sometimes - something I did not explore as much as I had planned. Maybe in Book 4.
I think Rhiannon is correct though - honor is paramount for a merc. If your word can't be trusted (especially in that day and age) you are nothing. Doesn't mean you have to be good - but as a merc. you have to always honor your contract. Of course that means begin careful about what you sign up for as well. Not only for self-preservation but because not all mercs are cold-hearted and evil - some are good and therefor may only take jobs that are morally comfortable with.
So perhaps Rhiannon is more of a neutral to possible neutral good merc? Or perhaps like Falion who can be both cold and warm depending on what is involved I think very few people have absolutes.
Sorry got sidetracked again. Thanks for the added detail Lia!
I tend to forget that Grim is a merc himself, i do see him more often then not as an adventurer.
On that Rhiannon and Sigyn actually share the same point of view about honor being paramount in their line of work. Having honor doesn't mean you are good...simply means you can be trusted. I believe that most people would rather hire a mercenary that can be trusted rather then the best if his/her word isn't worth anything. They always have the choice to take or refuse to take a job if it is not fitting of their morality...though those that get desperate and take just about any job regardless of the moral nature of the work do tend to give mercs a bad name.
Rhiannon would be more a neutral, Neutral good merc. Though sometimes a bit more on the chaotic side..as she's not always the exemplary law-abiding citizen. Faolin is an other kind of neutral...one many would say on the more evil side as he is an assassin. He becomes cold in favor of a kill...yet he is not without remorse about all the blood on his hands..sweet irony. It's always better to deal in tones a grey for characters i think, makes them more...human-like if we could say. Much more depth to them then if it was an absolute good or absolute evil.
I don't mind the sidetracking hehe, was a pleasure to provide more information
Brilliant work dear.
Thank you for your comment dear !
It was very interesting too see the mercenary's point of view towards the situation in Skyrim, since mercenaries not often become the main hero. Rhiannon is very exceptional at her work too, certainly not everyone can take the giant down with just one arrow! With such great archery skills Rhiannon can try as a bodyguard too, since not only she is such fine archer she knows Skyrim so very well.
Her memories of siblings was wonderful to see, like Sigyn scaring away her possible lovers away with her armored fists and handsome Faolin who appeared to be quite a ladies man! Only he did not interest Rhiannon, who seemed to be interested only into ladies herself, given her attempt with Sigyn. I bet always conservative lady as Sigyn was shocked to hear Rhiannon proposition!
I am looking forward to see her interactions with Sigyn, since it is most likely they might meet in Windhelm! and Rhiannon is very perceptive too, for being no mage, she has sensed something off, which meant she had sensed Despair's aura in the city!
It's always nice to explore memories of some people in the eyes of an outsider. Sigyn scaring away any possible lover while Faolin on his side seemed to have been quite the ladies man. Surprisingly enough, Rhiannon was not interested in him..but was actually interested in ladies and Sigyn in particular. Oh it surely was quite a surprise for Sigyn to hear Rhiannon proposition and find out her preference..though she might not of judged Rhiannon for it. Simply told her she wasn't interested.
They are quite likely to run into one an other in Windhelm, it'll be quite interesting to see how things unfold ! Well i don't think anyone would have to be a mage to feel that there is something off in the air. Just need to not have been affected by Despair's aura to feel it some i think. But being a scout might also make her a bit more perceptive then most.
