Loved this chapter. You really nailed Maven's character IMHO. I like how you wrote her cunning and sharp like she is in the game and how she was on to Grim right from the beginning. Very nice. I wonder how things will pan out in that quarter for Grim?
But more interesting is the meeting between those two hooded figures and the reveal of that hooded female who seems totally evil and corrupt... and after Grim! I love how she killed her 'partner' for so casually doubting her ability - shows what kind of a character she is (even with slightly misinformed information about Grim). I really like this twist. Very eager for more. I have a sneaking suspicion who this Dark Lady might be... I wonder...
PS: shots are stunning (as always), and I have to admit, I LOVE Grim in that dark armour - sooo sexy!
Dark stuff dude, loving the elaboration, great writing and overall feel of the story.
Can't wait for the next part
I don`t mean Maven. She is an intriguer, and has a lot of power, but i think, she isn`t able to brekk Grims will.
The other woman will be a problem. She goes, without batting an eyelash, over corpses. That makes her unpredictable.
Good luck Grim!
Great chapter Jon!
It was very intense encounter for Grim to meet Maven and to know that despite all his efforts and illusion magic she had managed to know about his true identity and of course being most manipulative scumbag of all Riften she will try to use Grim for her own goals, gaining benefit for her unofficial leadership of Riften. I feel very bad for Grim, for he was clearly shaken but he must also remember that despite all her resources, spies and manipulative attitude Maven is not some kind of prophet or Daedric Prince, she is mortal and frail and can be hurt and killed like any other... But Grim of course is not a murderer so I think Maven needs to do something really dark so the thought of getting rid of her would appear in his mind. For now sadly he would have to play along with her schemes... hope that he will still find a way to twist the situation to his own benefit, not hers.
The moment with picnic was like a great respite for poor Grim, it was heartwarming to see that among this chaos Erik managed to fund a way to cheer Grim up.
However what scares me for Grim's fate more than Maven are two shady troublemakers, though by the end there was only one. This woman, judging from her words and behavior appeared very much like typical Molag Bal servant, though I might be wrong. Still she is very dangerous and things became to appear quite dark for Grim and his friends, still I hope that with their abilities and maybe some otherworldly help they will emerge victorious of the troubles and trials waiting for them... By the way, dark lady mentions that Grim's blood boils with blood lust of Hircine... But that is not true, since she failed to grasp the depth of connection between Fenrir and Grim and she did not even mention Fenrir... And I think why is that, was it because she just doesn't know of him or maybe other reason. I am very intrigued and I am looking forward for continuation and thank you very much for sharing your wonderful work!
I want Grim to be very powerful (after all he is up against very powerful enemies) yet at the same time he has his mortal side and weaknesses. Maven may be mortal and human but her mind is sharp and she has some magic ability (this was displayed in-game when a dragon attacked Riften and she cast fire spells at it) so she isn't a push-over by any means. Consequently I felt of anyone in the city she would she through his subterfuge and disguises.
Grim is not a cold-blooded killer but he has his darker side. He is going to take care of evil Grelod the "Kind" when he finds out the house of horrors the orphanage has turned into. He is also less forgiving than many. He isn't the hero that gives the villain a second chance. On the other hand he just doesn't just go around killing people either - so for now Maven hasn't really done anything against him, his pack, or his friends. At the same time he has no fondness for her either. We will have to see what happens.
I thought Grim could use some fresh air afterwards and it is those special times with the ones you care for that help make life worth living after all.
You are very astute - I hadn't had a chance to soak in your comment till tonight when I got home from work and I see you picked right up on Hircine. That was the thing I stickied that I wondered if people would catch. Those who have followed Grim know that while Hircine is his grandfather that his wolf from comes from Fenrir. What little influence Hircines blood line has on him is not from Hircine's "gift" but his actual blood ... and Grim conquered that when he faced his memories of the Thalmor and mastered his rage. The Dark Lady has good information and knew he was a "werewolf" but very, very few know of his direct connection to Fenrir. In fact many consider Fenrir just another avatar of Hircine (not true of course). I suspect that is what she thinks as she is aware of the BWC. Whether this means anything later remains to be seen. The storm is brewing and shall arrive soon methinks.
Thanks again for your comments and following Grims tale so very well
I think Grim found his balance and doing extremely well with controlling himself. Maven is very cold and nasty person but I guess Grim would not have anything against her until she would try directly to hurt him or Erik, or Wolfgar. I guess this would be something Grim never forgives but knowing Maven I doubt that she would endanger herself in direct confrontation with someone as powerful as Grim, though apparently she tries to manipulate him.
I am very happy that I've noticed that thing with Hircine's blood that Dark Lady has mentioned, she apparently doesn't know his past in detail, or that case with Thalmor that helped Grim to master his rage and his "shadow". She apparently thinks that to mold him will be easy... she might be surprised. I am waiting with great anticipation what will come next for Grim and his friends but I am sure that together they might overcome any storm.
And the figures in the shadow committing skeever-petty attempts to endanger Grim, Riften is a den of inhuman inequity.
However, you've contrasted it all amazingly with your shots. I am fond of True Vision, but I must admit favouritism towards Seasons of Skyrim ENB when paired.
Your prose remains enticing and intriguing; I thought no one could make Maven more odious, you've proven me wrong and the dramatic irony being built as an unseen plot starts forming before our very eyes...tense!
Amazing work, my friend, amazing indeed.
I have used all three of Bronze's ENBs fairly extensively and I would say Project is my favorite but I don't use COT now so Seasons is my second. However of the three True Vision was the least used so I wanted to spend some more time with it.
The next few chapters will probably be one of my own, Serenity, or Tundra ENB.
The other women, she is evil in the classical sense although not pure evil. Thank you for the comment and glad it has been entertaining! I start chapter five this week - I have chapters 5-9 outlined and plot written and just need to work on screenshots and filling in the details.
