This sounded awesome but... The interface is nice, and gives a lot more info about each save than vanilla, but the lack of ability to sort the saves (which appear to be fixed in a random order unrelated to save name, creation date, or anything else of use) makes it actually LESS useful than vanilla (at least vanilla orders them by age with the most recent on top). Thus my "organized" list for one character has the saves in this order: 23, 31, 24, 91, 62, autosave, 54, autosave.bak, 43, quicksave, etc. This moves the most recent half dozen or so ess files (not the obse files if you use OBSE) for each character into a subfolder...where the game cannot see them. Launching from either OCM or OBMM or the OBSE load shortcut that I normally use results in the game seeing no saves at all. And I am NOT using the Steam version, I'm using the GOTY DVD 2 disc edition... Fortunately I backed up my saves before installing, so this is getting uninstalled and the reorganized saves folder is getting overwritten by my backup.

[EDIT, some text removed from above] Giving it one last go-over to make sure that it could be uninstalled without breaking anything, I realized that one character MUST be designated as "Active". It does not specifically state this ANYWHERE, although it is mentioned like an optional feature in the description here at Nexusmods (but not in the useless readme, which is just a changelog). Once this is done, OCM can launch the game client (with or without OBSE, and you MUST specify loading OBSE in the options dialog, it is not enabled by default), but IT DOES NOT FEED THE SAVES TO THE CLIENT. Instead, with any character designated as "Active", the client will see only the saves for that character that have been moved to that character's subfolder.

The description could have been clearer, and the readme should have useful info for installing and running the mod beyond just a changelog. I realize software documentation has apparently become a lost art, but seriously, you've got people complaining this doesn't work. TELL THEM SPECIFICALLY HOW TO USE IT. It's not the role of your end users to figure out how YOUR software works.

I seem to have encountered the same issue as torin23. Is there any way to work around this, or at least get my saves back?

I have been searching for a mod like this for hours, If this works I will fully recommend it and endorse it, its just a pain to scroll millions of time searching for a certain character and then search for another, hope it works

This doesn't seem to work with the Steam version of Oblivion. I have to give it the path to the steamappsOblivion directory once at startup and once in the options. It then is able to start Oblivion but it says that there are no save files and the save files continue to be saved in the default save directory instead of the subdirectories.

Any clues as to where I would look to help resolve this?

I'm running Win7 and have the latest GOTYE with all the patches.

Great utility! Really useful for those that, like me, sometimes have a hard time distinguishing their different saves, and forgetting that the quick save and auto-save are universal in vanilla! Really usefuL!

Hey, I've been using character manager for a while on my XP without any problems but when I recently tried to add it to my windows 7 computer I've encountered many problems. Here's my error. Every time I try to open the character manager a popup shows up with a fatal error. Below is the log. Thanks.

So I had some problems with this and OBSE but I was able to solve them. After installing make sure that all the OBSE files in your save folder are all sorted into the character name files as well. If you don't do this OBSE won't have the data associated with your save and will crash. The author may want to put this in the read-me if he is still around
