If memory serves (I read the books over 20 years ago), she was born a wolf, learned to shape-shift into a human, and can still shape-shift as will into either form although she prefers to stay human. Maybe there should be an option for her to shape-shift into a wolf for hunting or sneaking ?
(Unless I am confusing her with another female mage character from the series)
