One potential issue I'm concerned about is I noticed this tool converts normalmap textures from DXT5 to DXT1, this is just wrong, it'll make them look terrible (super blocky/smudgy). There should be an option to disable this specifically for normal map files since they are appended with _n
This is 2021 and i play oblivion with a laptop, Intel dual core T4500 2.3Ghz and Intel GMA 4500m (64mb Vram). I use Oscar's Nicer Grass, LowTriGrass, Stutter remover, and Streamline. But the game lagging so much in interior when streamline active.
With this tool, i only optimized "Oblivion - Meshes.bsa" and "Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa" and the game feels much better now, Thank You! *I also encounter System.OutOfMemoryException when i try to optimez shivering isles, maybe the BSA was encrypted?
Now i need some interior light removal mod to gain more fps, the "No More Flicker" mod is conflicted alot with DLC and "No Light Flicker" mod doesn't help so much.
Very usefull tool. Can someone give me some advices ^^ : which textures are best to be optimized and will give the best performance gain ? To which resolution I should lower the textures in order to have the best compromise between visual and performance ? (512*512 ?)
On iGPUs or GPUs with 256MB VRAM (or less) better resize all textures that are >512x512. You can experiment with hi-res mods, for instance try to install mods like Oblivion Character Overhaul and then resize everything to 512x512. On my laptop with iGPU Intel HD 4400 works perfectly with no FPS loss and the textures are still more detailed and realistic than default.
This is probably one of the best and most overlooked tools for Oblivion. With this and PyFFI I can get double the framerate I was, as well as nearly eliminating stuttering. I can't even imagine going without it now. I never thought I'd get 30+ fps inside of cities with Better Cities while still using a performance-heavy ENB.
Messing with the config files over and over, searching for improvement mods and playing the game with low fps that i have to put companions to fight for me on bigger battles because the low fps... But this mod change everything, how could a simple and small mod work so good that now i can play normal, WITH A STABLE FPS!!! i still have problems with torches, but nothing bad compared to before this amazing program. I play with medium textures, game looks fine and stable.
OBS: i put the program to reduce the textures and works better than before :)
it's generating a mipmap oin a texture that don't have mipmaps. The size is increased but if the game is setted to use mipmaps can improve performance.
I got over 4 Billion bytes of free space free'd up in my installation. THAT BULL s***! Optimize your damn textures community. that's 3.7 gigs of unneeded bloated textures in the folder gone. Replaced by optimized ones. NO more than 1k textures remain.
Everyone who gets the error "d3dx9_43.dll" missing, please try updating your direct X installation via the microsoft direct x runtime webinstaller. That worked for me.

If you're strugging to run oblivion on your low end laptop I suggest you also run Plain Normal Map Generator https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/35510 + Oblivion Cities FPS Optimiser https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/9564
for a significant framerate boost.
