Could this be used to increase the usable RAM above 4 Gig on modern machine, or is there some limit on that in the 32 bit game engine?

But isn't this basically the manual version of 4gb ram fix?

Doesn't do squat for system memory - which still maxes out at 2.2 Gig.... BUT !! great relish, it sure stops the game from crashing by piling the pressure on elsewhere. It seems to prefer hitting the GPU first and completely ignoring the spare 8 Gig memory. However, instead of boom ctd., NOW I get that god awful slow mode frame by frame thing (akin to the abomb and similar to what happens in FO4) which gives me time to save, quit, and reload. Excellent and thank you for uploading, yngve91. Funny thing is, I've never had this problem before now. Mind you, my LO is always different so, whatever, you probably just saved me from abandoning my current game and I'm more than happy.

Worked quite well for me. I am running Oblivion on a Toshiba laptop (1.50GHZ processor, 2.60GB RAM) I get about 5 frames in cities, and 10 to 15 in the wilderness/dungeons/interiors, eh, I live with it. This fix helped me out and I haven't seen a crash yet. All in all, I like it!

I'm not getting much more than that and i have a quad core 8 gig ram and a gtx560 card, still a crap setup i know but i thought it might have a chance with all the tweaks patches and boosters but alas, to no avail. this mod was my last try at getting some performance out of a poorly constructed game(looking at you bugfester) I do have about 150 plugins mind so that may well have a lot to do with it.

Don't mean to boast but I get 40 to 60 fps on max settings. I have an AMD FX Six-core Processor 3.8 Ghz with 10 gigs of ram and a 1 TB hard drive with a Nvidia Geforce gtx 970 graphics card with 4GB of Vram.

... It pays to save money... be patient...

I'am also rocking the Toshiba I hear you, well I hope this works same with "OSR" mod. ill be back to comment if it works or not.

for the most part I think its working I do have a FPS increase but I am unsure if that is to do with OSR. As for the crashes, I dont really crash that often "But when I do...."

I followed all the instructions to the letter, but nothing changed. Fire is still laggy as well as magica effects on my character. As they were before I used it.

This reply may be too late, but you need to repair the abomb

This has made a huge difference in my game. It runs smoother and I very rarely ever experience any crashes.
My initial load time seems to be longer but after that the loads are very quick.
I have an AMD dual core APU and no video card.
My game is heavily modded for better looking graphics.

Recently I started getting a lot of crashes and I thought it was because of a mod. I could not find the source of my problems.
I thought that maybe I had somehow lost the 4gb patch. I checked and sure enough after over a year of heavy game play the patch was no longer in place.
I don't know if it was a windows update or what but I re-applied the patch as instructed, in the very helpful pictorial, and now...

...I am completely crash free once again.

Thank You for making this available.

I see a lot of people asking this question, but I've not seen a response, so: what should I do if I use OBSE?
