Thanks for the suggestion, I do want to implement a 'make home' function, but not too soon as I have another mod that I want to get finished first. Check back in a few weeks, it'll probably be done by then.
Yes I agree, however, you need the ring so that you can give orders to the dog otherwise it'd only ever follow you, you wouldn't be able to tell it to stand guard or leave, which I think is essential to a companion. So an item had to be used, I chose a ring because one of my other mods (Soul_Weapons) uses an amulet, and I wanted to be able to run both at the same time. I hope this answers your question, if you'd like a more in-depth answer please PM me.
It seems to work well, but instead of the ring can't you put the dog itself in the market district? It would be much more realistic to find a dog than a ring that summons a dog... but of course that's only a suggestion.
To get the dog in the lite version simply pick up and equip the ring found at the feet (on the pedestal)of the western statue in the Imperial City Market District (It may be floating in the air a little way off the top of the pedestal).
Please try it out, if you have any more problems I'd be more than willing to help.

Thanks very much for your endorsement (it's my first!).
