I am at the puzzle part, and I couldn't figure it out, so I used the walkthrough, but even though I followed the exact instructions, "Travel North Twice “…From the intensity of its brightness, it is twice to the North that I run…”“Wait” by the Tree “…I rest by the tree to catch my breath…” Travel South Once “…Before travelling south…” Travel East Once “…and then sun-ward at my behest.” It never works and I always end up restarting the puzzle EDIT didn't have the patch installed
This mod is amazing, but I can't bring myself to play it again, because of the ending. I wish I knew how to mod because I think I would just remove the part where the guy flees and replace it with a fight sequence so that way it would at least be finished, and I would remove the part where the armor tells you that your permanently bound, and just leave it at "well f*#@ guess he's dead", and make the broken armor lootable and repairable, so at least you still have the armor.
I loved this mod. Well crafted story, great characters. The walkthrough's awesome - and necessary if you're trying for a specific path. I played the good path - there are things I would not have known to do without it. I really recommend the walkthrough; he includes it with the mod. VERY challenging. My partner and I both got stuck literally on one of the first puzzles. Spent almost an hour trying to figure it out before we broke and consulted the walkthrough. We might just be dumb though, lol
My only major complaint - the cliffhanger's infuriating. The fact that this mod's been abandoned, combined with the cliffhanger, almost singlehandedly ruins the whole experience; because it's entirely story focused, and the story will never be concluded. Warning for new players - don't play this if you actually want a conclusion, because you won't get one. I know the creator said they didn't want to make the entire mod "in case people didn't like it"; but from a creator's perspective myself, as someone who really understands that fear, I kinda feel like they maybe should've sucked it up. Because now it's a self fulfilling prophecy. It's the same thing movie studios do, when they're too scared to tell a full story in case they don't make money - and then people don't like the movie, because the studio never put the work in to make it complete. That's what this person did.
Also, I encountered two really annoying bugs. One was admittedly my fault - I walked outside when I was meant to walk into the basement, and then realised I was meant to walk into the basement, and then accidentally triggered a quest progression out of order. Fun fact: one of those triggers an effect that essentially blinds you, and the other stops the effect. So if you trigger them out of order, you're essentially permanently blind. I ended up having to reload - again, my own stupidity, so I don't blame them. Having been blind for a while came in useful anyway, because later on there was a segment in a really dark area where I had to fight enemies that I couldn't see. And I had already practiced doing that, having run around the woods trying to figure out why I was blind. I felt like a serious bada-- killing enemies that I literally could not see.
The one I do kinda blame on them has to do with the cliffhanger. You get this little popup that says "To be concluded". It's one of the ones that stops everything until you click on it. Well for me, it wouldn't go away. It kept popping up every few seconds no matter what I did. Since everything was finished anyway, I ended up just disabling the mod entirely. I still don't know how to fix that without disabling the mod, so that might be a problem for people who actually want to keep stuff from the mod after the fact. But I don't see other people talking about that, so it might just be a fluke.
Basically, it's a really decent mod. I'm just infuriated that you made me care, and now I don't get to see how it ends.
With each Oblivion reinstall, I always come back to Malevolent, Tears of the Fiend and Ruined Tail's Tale. What a comeback it would be if you could revisit your work and complete the story, but even if you don't, this is still one of the best mods I have ever played. Cheers!
got a question if anyone would like to help me out in my issue, i've installed everything to the book (except for sound since they removed it so i just slapped the entire file into data) but besides that and for some reason its not working for me and wanting to know if anyone from this year is also having an issue like mine, but basically it aint showing up a quest marker or anything of a quest appearing, i jst shrugged it off and just traveled to the place itself and looked everywhere and its not even there, even pulled up the pic of the map location for a reference.
Planning on making a new character to see if somehow this fixes it and because id like to roleplay alot with these games anyway. might give out an update of this whenever i beat the main game again for the 35th time.
I'm from next year and I can't seem to get markers either. My guess is that the dev took the traditional route with his quests and is leaving it up to the player to find everything based off of clues and directions and etc. That's assuming it isn't a bug though.
I've run into a problem, for some reason, ever since I visited the tower that the Lich is supposed to be at, my screen loses focus then refocuses in every 5 seconds or so. How do I fix this problem?
