About this mod

v2.51 Removes \"Dispell\" from the evolved weapon version. Beyond not fitting the general concept it is more a burden than help when facing \"reflect spell\" enemies (like removing player\'s own buffers).

THE ELDER SCROLLS CHAPTER IV: OBLIVION

*------------------------------
MOD NAME: Afinity Sword

*------------------------------

**** Sorry, I'm not native English speaker, please disregard eventual language errors ****

So here it is, what I hope being the fulfilled task of balancing the weapon.

Finally it came to that point I can look at and say it is like I wished it from the conceptual days.

v2.51 removes "dispel" from the evolved version. Although it may useful to remove "curses" placed on the player, it can be a burden removing "buffers" too. The user can choose Between the two versions, identical otherwise. This only matters when facing "reflect spell" type of enemies, anyway.

v2.50 can be seen as completed and polished, the weapon itself does what is needed to adapt to the player's gaming stile, being useful to any class, from that weakling mage life saver last resource to that doorsmashing warrior, and will be good does not matter the actual player's level and build.

So, my thanks to everyone who downloaded and used the mod. Although I'm not abandoning it, I don't feel the mod need me anymore :) if whatever bug happen to show up, it will be addressed, of course, but if they exist they are very elusive and shy.

If something is yet to be done is telling the Afinity history, from the times of the Akavirian wars, where it was forged under Meridia's guidance and daedric knowledge to make it unique, passing a long way as the dreaded undead purger... the events which culminate in Eladora's banishment on limbo and the the defiled weapon's recover and cleansing by the be hero of Cyrodiil (or that wanabe hero).

See you later, until then, goodby and thanks for all the fishes :)

One last thing... once the weapon satiate its lust for avenge (enjoy the opportunity to train your undead summoning and blade skills, or just go hunt them over there) for being defiled for so long, it will recover it's final powers, being able to soultrap, dispel the target and absorb a fraction of the magical damage delivered, restoring its wielder's health... all right, it may be a bit outrageous but in the end you'll love it.

----------------------------------------------------
OBS: "The sword name is not a typo for Affinity"

Now you will fight for 'her', worsen yet, now you will 'fight her'.

To them who prefer avoiding the quest (maybe for not being 'deemed worth from Meridia') can receive the weapon using the console command:

StartQuest GiveAfinity (remember Afinity (the sword) has only one 'f' and it's not a typo here)

MOD REQUIREMENTS:

This mod needs OBSE v0020 or above

Afinity uses the Godai one handed Katana model from Vagabond Angel, with permission, and already includes the necessary files.
If you like the wonderful weapon's design you can find the complete set, that includes the two handed version and the Itami ones with a white design, on http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5704

*------------------------------
**** BE AWARE - Afinity is not a weapon intended to be overpower, albeit the magical effects are stats dependent, boosting the desired attributes and/or skills will play a role in the damage output, but it's natural grow is attractive enough by itself.

Just be aware than albeit this weapon will give a real chance to even a low level player against any monster, vanilla or modded, it is not intended to kill the fun together with the foe. It is weaker on lower level but becomes progressively better as player's status and level increases. Once you become used with the way it performs, it's hard to leave it at home.

You will have good reasons to value those potions, spells or items you deemed little useful before.

Changelog

v2.51
-Removes "Dispel" from the evolved sword version.

v2.50
- The scripts were totally redone from scratch to make use of the newer OBSE functions, so the code became much more simple and efficient.

The weapon balance in power is now that I expected since the mod's conceptual phase and could not be implemented before without making the scripts heavy and bulky.

Because being subtle, many may fail to notice how the weapon is really powerful, but not meant to kill the fun and the danger sense, just the foe.

the old v2.16 was kept for those wishing an almost "cheating" weapon... even because may be really funny seing goblins and trolls flying everywhere almost all the time.

v2.30
-Again a little tweak to reduce the weapon's power
see the video demonstrating it in a fight against Umbra by one level 23 battlemage...

v2.20
- This version is only to correct the issue which prevented the weapon's speed and reach to trigger until the player reequip it.

The problem occurs because those two stats can't be changed on an already equipped weapon, thus the script was slight modified to silently unequip the weapon, apply the changes and equip it again and once (if it was initially equipped, of course), silently. So the change is unnoticed other than the weapons behavior being correctly updated.

Actually the only time the problem occurred was when reloading from a save game, since the weapon was already equipped but the speed and reach reset to the original values (BTW ... as slow as any other weapon of it's class).

v2.17
- Final release (unless someone finds a bug)
This is a scaled down version from v2.16. It is for you that (correctly) think the previous versions too much powerful.
- Just install or reinstall over previous version. Updating (downgrading the power, actually) don't ask for anything else to be done.

v2.16
-Removed restriction from player's (low) fame preventing the weapon to deliver it's magical attack - included option to receive the weapon with console command: StartQuest GiveAfinity

v2.15
-Included previously missing voice and lipsynch files - No one that already did the quest and got the sword need to do it again.

v2.1
-Tweaked to reduce the raw power and enhance the usefulness of potions/spells/items that increase attributes and skills. Beware drain and damage over then reduces the sword power the same way (these effects affects the character as normal too, of course), yet not an extent that turn it a necessity.
Using such attributes/skills boosts and ridding yourself the bad ones is something to be considered. Mainly luck, that affects the chances of critical/kill so much to be neglected.
Those enhancements are yet more important at low levels where the character is much more vulnerable.

v2.01
-Just add a cosmetic magical effect to 'justify' the player's teleporting

v2.0
-Include a little yet exciting quest. You just need to recover the blade from the hands of a vampire... (smirk)
-Quest voiced using synthesized speech from AT&T-Crystal voice.
-changed slightly the actuation curve in the stat

v1.4
- Addressed Speed and Reach Not functioning as expected
By limitations on the engine, those stats can be altered just on add or equip Item

v1.3
- Include omod conversion directory to use with OBMM
- Include the Vagabond Angel's Godai katana model
- Some very slight tweaks so to better balance the weapon.

v1.2
- Mods like KAS-AF and Intelligence Overhaul can lead the stats at very high values at relative low level, so some more tweak was made to give
player level a more significant role.
- Kill chance lessened a bit too, since at some conditions it was very high

v1.1
- Tweaked some attributes effects over the final damage so to lessen the chances of the weapon to become overpowered.

DESCRIPTION and some technical details

Since luck (the 'real player' and the combatants attribute 'luck') plays a meaningful role, the quest can be very hard or disappointing easy.

The quest is started reading a note you find in the Skingrad mages or fighters guild. Once you encounter the NPC, and accepting the task you will be teleported to a cage on limbo. There is no other 'conventional' way of get out but take the blade in your hands. The vampire will have loot leveled to player and a very good gauntlet you must not miss (so don't take the sword before looting).

Simple, just go, slash, hack and return... just make sure yourself not ending slashed, hacked and bloodless.

The quest doesn't have a better level to be performed. the only foe you will confront is a vampire leveled as the player, wearing leveled gear. And by design, Afinity adjusts to the level and characteristics of the wielder. So, unless you are using an uber weapon and gear (don't rely so much in this one, second Myria), you will have an exciting and perhaps lethal challenge ahead.

**---------- Some technical about afinity

The concept behind this weapon is it uses several of the wielder stats to setup it's base damage, reach and attack rate.
Beside this it have an on strike scripted power that acts directly over the target health, a chance for a critical and a small chance for a instant kill.
NOTE: the defiled version will not 'instant kill' the player, but in this case it can deliver massive critical damage that may be just the same.

Weapon name: Afinity sword (not affinity)
Weapon type: One hand katana
The base stats of the weapon:
. Base Damage is based on level, strength, blade and athletics
. Infamy is shunned by the weapon and it will refuse unleashing the magical power if so.
. Speed is based on player level and speed
. Reach is based on player level and acrobatics

The on strike powers of the weapon:
. the common restrictions apply... essential NPC or last horse are not affected by it
*** (update). Infamy is measured, the weapon scorns the wicked, not as before anymore
. Non evil NPC will receive half normal magical damage and no critical or kill applies
. Creatures are treated without bonuses
. Undead will receive special "caress" with high special or kill chance
. Evil NPCs will receive special treatment too since the weapon reacts to their aura (not so much as undead but...)
. No vampirism is accounted (I think there are some weapons well made that I don't want compete with)
. Chances are affected by luck and player level
. Damage is affected by agility, willpower and target/player levels difference, but never under a minimal equal that of a common steel weapon.

The critical is a pushaway 10 ft and increased special damage, the kill talks for itself
The on strike damage ignores armor or magic protection, applies aways the strike connects and can't be absorbed or reflected or negated
(the calculated damage is subtracted from the target current health, zeroed if minus and the result is subtracted from the health)

Since the current stats are accounted, the player have real use to fortify attributes/skills potions and the like
(well, some more incentive at least) but beware that the base stats of the weapon is taken once, whenever the player enters combat mode,
so drinking boost potions will not help once started, beyond the natural benefits (the on strike effects will do the trick anyways)

Weight was set as 15, base damage in 0 and health was increased to 1700. As it is now the charges # is beyond 100 and is not cheap to recharge
(so the enhanced Ayleids well mods are a must for the newbie PC) and repair, is wise to use the weapon with 'parcimonia' too,
but not near unworthy for the green adventurer.
