About this mod

For immersion with battle music: your heartbeat!

Permissions and credits
For immersion, music isn't quite realistic, and I wanted to make my Oblivion experience as immersive as possible. While finding mods that add atmospheric sounds (listed below), I realized a problem; disabling music is more realistic, but I have no way of knowing when I'm in combat.

The solution? A heartbeat track that plays when you enter combat! This is a high-quality recording taken from http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/, which I converted to a 256kbps mp3, reduced the volume, and placed into my Battle music folder. It is amazing, especially in caves/ruins!

I highly recommend using this music replacement with the MIS (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1462) mod, as well as Natural Weather with Darker Nights. This mod will not replace sound or ambience mods, but it will replace any and all music that you currently have. This mod is 100% reversable as long as you follow the instructions below.

UPDATE 1: A bit of light testing recently revealed that sometimes, if you are stealthed and spotted after escaping from combat, the "empty.mp3" track will play, or rather, the "heartbeat.mp3" track won't. To remedy this, copy+paste a "heartbeat.mp3" a few times. 5 copies should do.

UPDATE2: As far as I can tell, this hotfix works. Until I make a major change to the mods files, another step has been added to the installation.

INSTALLATION

1. Download
-Download the mod.

2. Back up your music:
-Cut (not copy) the /battle, /dungeon, /explore, /public folders from the /Oblivion/Data/Music folder.
-Paste them somewhere else on your hard drive, where you'll remember them. The /Oblivion folder is a good place for this.

3. Install:
-Extract the Combat Heartbeats *.rar into the Oblivion/Data/Music folder.

3a. BUGFIX: (As packaged, the music may not play under certain conditions)
-Copy "heartbeat.mp3"
-Paste 4 or 5 new copies into the /battle folder.

3b. Customization: (I still recommend MIS over ambient music tracks)
-If you have ambience tracks that you use while exploring, copy them back into their respective folders.
-Note that tracks added to the /battle folder may be chosen at random.

4. Configure:
-Set your ingame volume to ~60%, depending on taste.
-Remember: if you use a custom Oblivion.ini, you will need to unlock it, set the volume, and relock it.

5. Enjoy!

UNINSTALLATION

1. Remove:
-Delete the /battle, /dungeon, /explore, /public folders in the /Oblivion/Data/Music folder.

2. Backup:
-Copy the /battle, /dungeon, /explore, /public folders that you, of course, backed up earlier.
-Paste them into the /Oblivion/Data/Music folder.

3. Restore:
-Reset your volume to wherever it was before you installed the mod.
-Remember: if you use a custom Oblivion.ini, you will need to unlock it, set the volume, and relock it.

4. Don't mope:
-Unless my instructions are errenous, I don't care if you did something wrong.
