Purpose of this mod

This mod makes a series of changes to Oblivion, in order to make it a bit more realistic. The main change is to eliminate the use of Fast Travel, replacing it with a series of portals located in the cities of Cyrodiil. All portals are interconnected, and we can travel from one to another by using a magical stone called a Vitali. A maximum of 1 Vitali is used each time we travel between portals.

Portal travel not only teleports the player, but also their horse/s. The teleport is instantaneous, and thus the time taken is inappreciable.

I hope all of you who download this mod will make the most of the added realism, compared to what little the vanilla game offers in terms of transport.

Have fun!

FAQ

- How do the portals work?

The portals are constructions found outside every city in Cyrodill, and their function is to transport the Player to other portals in other cities. They work by means of a magic stone called a Vitali. All we need to do is to activate the portal and choose our destination.

- How do I activate a portal?

To activate a portal, you must be in possession of a Vitali, and enter the portal. Then just press “P” and choose your destination. Remember that each journey uses up a Vitali, so you should be careful how you use them. They are not cheap!

Also remember that the “P” key must NOT be assigned to any other function, so as to ensure that this mod works correctly.

- Where can I find Vitali, and how much do they cost?

Vitali are on sale from some 40 traders throughout Cyrodiil, and their price ranges from 250 to 500 Septims. The price varies according to your Mercantile skill.

- Apart from the Player, can mounts be teleported?

In this version of the mod, the portals can also transport any of the horses that have been sold or given to us during the game. It doesn’t matter if the Player owns more than one mount, as they will all be transported without any problem.

- Can NPCs be teleported with the Player?

No. NPCs cannot be teleported with the Player, so any NPCs that are following you when you activate the portal will be left behind. The only way to keep them with you is to travel on foot or on horseback.

- Can I travel to the Shivering Isles by means of the portals?

No. This mod does not support The Shivering Isles official expansion. The portals are for use only within Cyrodiil.

- Apart from Portal Travel, can I travel by any other means?

Yeah. Legs or horses :P

- Can this new system affect our Bounty level?

No. Your Bounty level will not be affected - any price on your head for crimes committed will remain, no matter how often you use the portals.

- Can I transport summoned creatures?

Yes, but only those included in vanilla Oblivion. Any 3rd party mods that add Conjuration spells will not be compatible with this mod, so any creatures you summon with these spells will not be teleported with the Player.

NOTE: Vanilla Oblivion only allows you to summon one creature at a time, so if you have any mods installed that allow more than one summoned creature, remember that only the first one summoned will be teleported with the Player.

- Is Cyrodiil Portal Travel incompatible with any other mods?

It is only incompatible with mods that require the obligatory use of Fast Travel, and any mods that use the location of the portals for any other items or features.

Other incompatibilities may occur if this mod is not loaded AFTER all other mods.

NOTE: The Horse Armor Pack official plugin is NOT compatible with this mod, so any armoured horses you possess will not be teleported with the Player.

Future versions may include support for the Horse Armor Pack. It all depends on the popularity of the mod.

Suggestions

Advice for improved use of this mod:

It is advisable not to own more than 2 horses, as any more would decrease performance while using a portal.

It is very important NOT to use a portal while on horseback. Doing so may result in the game crashing.

For low-end systems, it is recommendable to reduce the amount of grass before using a portal. Performance decreases considerably on these computers if grass rendering is at 25% or higher.
